A confused pain flooded Blue's eyes, but he kept quiet. It gutted me to know my words had sliced him, but it was better my lies hurt him than the King's fury. It was clear my father was itching to lash out. What he chose to do just depended on how bored he was.

My father turned a stern glare to Blue. "Is that true, omega?"

Blue opened his mouth, his eyes downcast, struggling to find his words. "I, I don't know…who Hida or…I don't know them." His voice was so timid and soft. I desperately wanted to hold him.

My father narrowed his red eyes at my omega, the crimson reflecting the flame from the single lantern that still burned. He looked like a demon—the monster from my childhood. I just needed to keep him more interested in me than Blue.

"Are you of age?" my father asked.

"Yes," Blue mumbled.

"Strip," he ordered, standing up abruptly.

"Father?" I stepped toward him, panic pounding in my veins.

"I said strip!" he roared.

Blue flinched, crossing his arms tight across his chest. "Wuh, why?" he asked, tears pouring down his cheeks.

"What the fuck are you doing?" I demanded, enraged I couldn't just beat the old man senseless.

"If this pup is just that, a random omega you came across wandering alone in the middle of the woods," he smirked, "then I can only assume he hasn't been checked for the mark."

I swallowed hard, knowing exactly what he was doing. He was either going to torture Blue or humiliate me. And I'd take a thousand beatings before I allowed even one tear to fall down Blue's face because of this fucker.

I narrowed my eyes at my father, and a small smirk played on his lips. He was getting what he wanted, and he knew it.

I inhaled deeply, preparing to lie. "I've seen every inch of this omega's body," I said with a bite in my tone. "He has no mark."

I prayed to the Moon that my father didn't see the lie in my eyes. I didn't know if Blue held a birthmark or scar that my father might see as a threat, but I wasn't willing to find out.

A disgusted grin split my father's face. "So youhavebeen fucking around while my kingdom falls to ruin?"

"He was just something to pass the time while I made it home." Blue's head snapped up at my words, but I didn't look at him. I couldn't. "My apologies, Father. It won't happen again."

"So he doesn't matter?"

"No, Sir." I moved to block his view of Blue. It was a stupid move, and my father's eyes lit up the second my feet moved, but I couldn't help it. I hated his eyes on what was mine. "We have many other important things to discuss. Let us discuss your strategy for this war.”

My father leaned back in his chair, his eyes narrowed. "If this omega doesn't matter, can I sample him?"

I suppressed a growl so hard, it physically hurt.

He had no interest in Blue. He was just being cruel. My father preferred his partners to be tiny, female, and, most importantly, untouched. In all my years, I had never once seen him with a male, even though it was common practice for most alphas to be with both genders before settling down. It was an odd preference, but one that was well known throughout the kingdom, but I knew he'd fuck Blue just to destroy me.

"Did you hear me?" My father's voice was loud and cutting. Blue flinched hard at the sound and took a careful step back.

"Yes," I said, trying like hell not to bare my teeth. "I heard you."

"And?" He was playing with me.

"And I'm not giving you permission to touch him."

He let out a quick laugh as if he had won a hard-fought game. "So hedoesmatter?" His fists tightened as his eyes flickered to Blue, then back to me.

Fear burned through me. He was going to hit someone. He was bored and needed something to entertain him. I just prayed it was me.

"Leave!" I barked at Blue. "I wish to speak to the King alone."
