“That would be great,” Lex snorted, “but sadly, the menu is lacking here.”

I held out my wrist, eyeing it, then him.

“No.” Lex shook his head, pushing my hand away.

“Okay, then we’ll go, and you can stay here and die.”

Lex grabbed my wrist. “Fine.”

I smiled wide as he winked, but I could see the unease in his eyes. My nerves flared as Lex turned his attention to my arm, his pupils dilating as he eyed my skin.

“Lex,” I whispered. “Do you have to eat my flesh or…?”

Lex’s voice sounded dreamy, almost far away, as he licked his lips. “A bit of blood will do until I can get someone proper. I just need to be able to stand without falling over. Just a bite.”

Lex’s sharp teeth pushed hard into the fleshy part of my arm, pain punching through my body. It was nothing like when Joon left love bites on my skin. His fangs were just as sharp, but the euphoria that followed his marks left me panting with pleasure. This just fucking hurt.

I turned to Blue, trying to distract the pinching sensation that radiated up and down my arm, making me sway. The omega was staring hard at Lex feasting on my blood, and the color drained from his face.

Blue’s chest heaved, and the air crackled in my ears as his skin flashed white. Between the blood pulling from my arm and the weird pinch in the air, I was dizzy and nauseated. Lex released me just as Blue’s skin flashed with sparks of lightning all over his pale skin. His whole body went tight, then the current stopped, and he fell backward onto the ground.

“Oh, my,” Lex whispered, fresh, red blood coating his lips. The swelling around his eyes was already gone, just the bruises left.

I moved quickly to Blue, a little scared to touch him. His skin was smudged as if he had wiped ash all over his face and hands. Moving slowly, I placed a hand on the side of his face, then exhaled when it didn’t hurt.

“Lex,” I said, motioning for him to help me move Blue into the water. I needed to wash him to make sure his skin wasn’t burnt under the ash.

Lex sat next to his feet while I dipped Blue’s head into the water. Using the sash around my middle, I cleaned his face off, then cupped my hand and dripped water over his hair.

“Sorry,” Blue mumbled, his eyes fluttering open. “I can’t, I can’t control it.” His words were slightly slurred, and I quickly shushed him.

“Save your strength,” I said, moving my fingers through his thick, blue-ish black hair. He hummed at the sensation, and I kept caressing him, willing him to be better. I twisted the strand of purple around my fingers, then channeled them up and into his scalp.

Then I froze.

“What?” Blue whispered, watching my face carefully.

“Lex,” I said, terrified to move or breathe or think.

Moving just at my shoulder, Lex leaned down, looking at Blue’s hair. “What?” he asked with a lazy bit of snark.

Using both my hands, I parted Blue’s hair just where the purple strand grew to reveal a dark birthmark. It was circular and red, resembling the crescent of a blushing Moon.
