“I wanted you to put your touch on it. I honestly don’t care how it gets decorated or furnished. As long as you’re here with me and, when you’re ready, I’d like to fill this place with kids. I bought us a house, now you just need to make it a home.” This man just keeps surprising me, and I’m kicking myself in the ass for not taking a chance sooner. We could have had all of this two years ago instead of just now. Maybe it wasn’t the right time for us back then, but I still can’t stop from feeling like we’ve lost precious time.

“Thank you, Jackson. You’re the most amazing man I have ever met. You go above and beyond for everyone you care about, and I don’t think I could have found a better man.” I wrap my arms around his waist and lean up on my tiptoes and place my lips on his.

“I’m glad you like it baby girl. Now, go check the rest of the place out. You need to get to the clinic, and I need to get to the clubhouse.” He says after he pulls away from the kiss.

Looking around the house, I can see the living room and kitchen from the door. It’s an open floor plan and you can see the second story from downstairs. I like that because when we do decide to have a family of our own, we’ll be able to see our children from every angle. The walls are all painted a light gray. It has four bedrooms upstairs and two downstairs. There’s an office, three bathrooms, and your basic living room and kitchen. I can’t wait until it’s furnished, and we move in. It’s going to look amazing, and I have all kinds of ideas running through my head. “Let’s get this day started babe. It’s going to be a long one.” I look down at my watch and notice that I’m late to open. “I’m running late and need to open the clinic. I’ll be glad when Ali gets back.” She should be back the beginning of next week, so I shouldn’t have to open all the time. I don’t mind to much, though because I love my job.

“Let’s get going my love. We’ll get you there. She’ll be back in a few days. You know how she is. Never down for long.” He’s right about that. After her pregnancy with the girls, she didn’t stay down for long. She’s stubborn that way and I’m pretty sure that Axyl can’t stand it ninety-nine percent of the time.

After Reaper dropped me off at the clinic, I’ve been going nonstop since I unlocked the doors. It’s well after dinnertime when my last patient leaves. I’m just sitting down in my office chair when my phone rings. I pick it up and answer without looking at the caller I.D. “Hello?”

“Hey beautiful. You hungry?”

“Starving. Someone didn’t make enough time for us to have breakfast this morning.” I tease Jackson.

“Sorry. I got a bit excited to show you the place.” He sounds sheepish and I just can’t help the smile that crosses my face.

“I’m glad you did babe. I loved it.” I tell him.

“I’ll be by in a few minutes with some lunch.”

“Okay. I’ll be here in my office. I’m going to call my dad while I wait.” We said our goodbyes and hung up the phone. I need to call my dad and let them know that I’ll be by later this evening for a visit. With that thought in mind, I bring my dad’s number up and hit dial. It only rings a few times before he answers.

“Hey sweet pea. It’s been a while since I’ve heard from you.”

“Hey daddy. I know. Things have been a bit hectic here lately. I was calling to let you know that I’ll be by later this evening. We need to talk.”

“This sounds serious. What’s going on?” I can tell by the tone in his voice that he’s turned into full-on dad the mob boss mode. He’s always been overprotective of his children and him being the don of the most powerful mafia in the US has made that double, but when my sister was murdered, it became worse. I understand why it did though. When I asked why he was so much more overprotective after she died, he told me it’s because he was supposed to protect us, and he failed at protecting my eldest sister. No matter what anyone said, he never got over not being able to protect her. Even though it was difficult to deal with, I never complained because I knew he needed it.

“Blake showed up at my apartment last night.”

“What do you mean he showed up at your apartment? He and your sister were supposed to be in the Bahamas. They left Wendy with your mother and I.”

“Well, apparently they’re not, or at least, he’s not. He was there when my boyfriend and I showed up last night.”

“Boyfriend?”

“Is that all you got out of that? You’ll meet him tonight when I come over and I’ll explain everything then.”

“You better. I’ll see you when you show up at the house. I’ve got to go. I have a meeting in five.”

“Okay daddy. Love you. I’ll see you in a few hours.”

“I love you too sweet pea. I’ll let your mom know.” With that, he hung up the phone and Reaper walked in the door with our lunch.

After I dropped Hannah off at the clinic, I made my way over to the clubhouse. I wanted to let the guys know about what happened last night just in case something was to happen. I typically wouldn’t worry much about it and just handle it on my own, but I have a feeling deep in my gut that by the time this is all said and done, I’ll need my brothers’ help. I figured I’d just bring it up in church and then head to the clinic, Angels Door, and bring Hannah lunch. Don’t ask me how they came up with that name because even I’m stumped.

Walking into the clubhouse, I see most of the brothers are already here. I’m not sure what this church meeting is about, but I know part of it will be the yearly trip we take. This will be the first one that we’ve taken since Aliana left for school. Those of us with a seat at the table take a trip with our families for a week or two and then when we come back, those who are not executive officers take a couple weeks for a vacation.

After everyone is back from their time off, we all join at the clubhouse for a few days to have time as a big family. No hang-arounds, strays, or club girls. Just brothers and their families. We do this so we don’t get overwhelmed and make mistakes. We want time to connect with one another outside of the club. We would take a trip with the whole club, but that would leave the clubhouse unprotected and we can’t have that. We may not be into all the illegal activities we were before the ol’ ladies put a stop to it, but we still run guns. So, we can’t risk our warehouses, clubhouse, or places of business to be left unguarded.

“Hey brother.” Axyl says as I make my way towards the bar where he and Westyn are sitting. Westyn is our president and Axyl is our VP, but they don’t let it go to their heads. They make sure each member has a say before making a final decision based on everyone’s opinions. It’s what make them great leaders. We’re trying to live up to our fathers, but they’re big shoes to fill. We can just hope we’re doing them proud.

“Hey brothers.” I greet, sitting down at the bar. I signal the prospect manning the bar for a beer. “What time is church supposed to start? I have something to be brought to attention.” They both look at me curiously and I elaborate more. “Hannah had a visitor in her apartment when we got there last night.”

“Ten minutes. We have things to discuss before we talk about the trip we’re planning to take.” Westyn answers. I nod to show my acknowledgment and we make small talk until it’s time to go into the chapel.

Fifteen minutes later, we’re all sitting in our seats and Westyn is banging the gavel, indicating the start of church. “Alright gentlemen. We have a few things to discuss before we go on about our day. First, Reaper has some information to share with us.” He gives me a nod and I explain everything. I explain about Hannah’s family, how her ex showed up in her apartment last night, and everything he said to her.
