“What’s this?”

“Open it.” Penny hadn’t actually looked inside since David had begun to unpack for her but if all else in the case reflected what she thought of as her own life, this should have remained the same. At Allie’s gasp of surprise, she knew her assumption to be correct.

“I don’t understand,” her sister whispered.

“Before my trip to New York, this was my sister, Allie, her husband Jack, and their two children.”

Allie traced her finger over each of the children’s faces. “I was a mother?” she queried softly.

“Yes, and decidedly content, you are, were. Look, there is this as well.” Penny handed over the lanyard and name badge for Allie to inspect.

“Fucking hell, Penny, this is, well, it’s like crazy!”

“Tell me about it!” Somehow Allie’s shock and disbelief calmed her and made her feel less alone in the situation.

“What did David say when he saw this?” she asked, waving her hand over the suitcase contents.

“He accused me of having an affair.”

“I realise I was out of line,” a gruff voice interjected from the doorway. It was David.

“I made coffee downstairs,” he added.

“Hey, have you seen this?” Allison held out the photo for him to see. He crossed the room and took the photo from her, studying it.

“Damn...” His face reflected Allie’s shock.

“Right, I think we have to accept that Penny could be telling us the truth, David.”

Penny felt a whoosh of air leave her lungs; suddenly she could breathe normally again. An enormous burden lifted with her sister’s words. They believed she was sane.

Chapter Four

“If you’re right andthe electric storm or the turbulence surrounding the plane caused you to jump into another version of your life, does that mean thatmyPenny is now stuck in your life?” David asked, leaning forward looking pale and anxious.

Penny nodded thoughtfully. “I guess so, but she will have Allie and Jack, and I know they will support her.” She tried to sound reassuring but up until David mentionedhisPenny, she hadn’t given the idea any thought.
