“Fucking hell, this is incredible!” He ran a hand through his hair.

“How can we fix it?” Penny asked.

“Maybe we can’t,” Allie said. Penny and David both glared at her.

“This is a phenomenon, guys, you know,Twilight Zonestuff and you can’t always fix everything in life,” Allie told them.

“What if I try to replicate the plane flight? I could fly into an electrical storm, and perhaps that would reverse what’s happened?” Penny suggested desperately.

“I don’t know, but possibly worth a try?” David ran a hand through his hair.

“Come on, how are you going to arrange that? Get real!” Allie said scathingly. She turned to Penny.

“What I’m curious to know is why did everything in your case remain unchanged?”

“Perhaps it has something to do with the manufacture of my case? The shell is made of titanium,” Penny said.

“Maybe the fact it was in the hold and not inside the cabin could be a contributing factor?” David surmised.

“Well, whatever the reason, it’s the evidence I needed to prove to myself that I’m not going mad!” Penny stated.

There was silence as they each drank their coffee and brooded. Honey gave a whine and David stood up.

“I’m going to take Honey for a walk, I need some air.” He leaned across and kissed Allie’s cheek. “Bye for now. You two need to talk. Have a sisterly discussion.” He left the room with Honey close on his heels.

Penny waited until the sound of his steps receded down the passage then turned to her sister.

“Would you talk to Clare about me moving in with you guys for a little while? I feel uneasy staying here since I am not truly David’s wife.”

Allie moved to kneel in front of her. She placed her hands on Penny’s knees, gazing into her face earnestly.

“You are stillPenny. All this talk of another Penny is just our take on what has happened to you. You are still my sister and I still love you. Of course you can come and stay with us, but you must discuss this with David first. He’s your husband and he loves you very much; don’t throw that away with a hasty decision.”

“Thank you,” she said, returning Allie’s hug. They stayed huddled together for a few moments then Allie drew away. “Do you want me to say anything about this to Dad?”

Penny stilled. “Dad isalive? What about Mum, is she still living too?” she asked eagerly.

Her heart raced with pleasure at the thought of seeing her parents again! Oh, to be held and comforted by them.

“You mean our parents are both dead where you were?” Allie asked, looking shocked.

Penny nodded. “Killed five years ago in a car accident while on holiday in South Africa, it was awful. We both flew out there to sign papers and reclaim their bodies,” she explained.

“My God, how dreadful,” Allie shook her head sadly. “Well, in the here and now, Mum sadly died of pancreatic cancer, two years back. Dad moved house last year. He now lives in Beckenham, near Uncle John.”

Sadness at the fact she wouldn’t see her mother again gave her mixed emotions, knowing she was able to at least see her father. It was incredible to think she could hold him and be held by him once again.

“Oh, my goodness, Allie, I want to go see Dad! Can we go today? Please!”

“Yeah, of course, but do we tell him or just say we both have a free day and can we come over?”

“Yes, say that, we don’t want him worried about anything. Allie, this news kind of makes up for what’s happened to me! To be able to see Dad again and be able to tell him I love him... I just... Oh, my God, this is amazing!”

Allie grabbed her phone out and began to scroll. She looked up with a frown. “Promise me you won’t freak him out. He is frail and only just settling back into life again after losing Mum. I don’t want him fretting.”

Penny nodded. “Don’t worry, I’ll be normal, but Allie...” She bounced in her seat with excitement.

“Hmm, that’s just the kind of reaction I’m concerned about... Oh, hi, Dad, I’m with Penny. Yup, we’re fine. We both have a free day today and we thought it would be nice to drive over for a visit... yeah? Oh, well, that’s nice. No, no, never mind. Another day, yes... Saturday, mm-hmm, sounds like a plan... yeah... Yes, I will. Love from us both, bye, Dad.”
