“Probably because all they do is sit around and watch sports in their plush living room with their big-screen TV, until it's time to rescue a cat.” Marco jokes again. “What do you guys think about getting pizza for dinner? Mom deserves a night off from cooking and you know my cooking isn’t edible unless it’s a rare steak. Does anyone want a rare steak?” All the kids shoutewwwand he laughs again. “Alrighty then, pizza it is.”

“Yeah, pizza! I want pineapple on mine,” Olivia says.

Marco scoffs and teases, “You are your mother’s daughter, sweet Olivia!”

“You know it. Huh, baby girl?” I look back at her and wink, and she starts to giggle.

The others start shouting their preferred toppings and I look back at Marco to see his beaming smile as his eyes focus on the road. As we make the drive, he occasionally glances in the rearview mirror and smiles at our little loves.

“Let’s go to the park until dinner time,” Marco tells them.

“Awesome!” Camden yells.

They each begin to tell Marco about their day. He’s being so attentive, laughing and asking them questions.

All the while, I’m thinking about how I can’t wait for his attention later tonight too…

Chapter 14

Good Desperation

Ellie

Overthenextfewhours, I watch the man I love laughing, joking, and playing around with our kids.

He pushed every kid on the swings without complaint and climbed up as high as he could go on the play structure. Let me tell you, watching his bear-like stature trying to squeeze through tunnels and attempt to fit down narrow slides not only warmed my heart but had me in fits of giggles all afternoon. All the while, he gently encouraged their independence while silently safeguarding them with pride and that got me too.

It’s like every time I think I’ve hit the peak of my love for him, I see him in action as a father and my heart grows again.

After we got home from dinner, the kids all ran upstairs to get ready for bed and he whispered into my ear “Get ready because I’m not stopping until I find your special spot.”

The heat of both his breath on my skin and his naughty words caused goosebumps to spread on my skin and nerves to bombard my stomach.

He insisted on tucking all the kids in and told me to go take a shower. The first thing I did was grab a fresh razor and my favorite vanilla body wash and prep my body for theexploration. My toes to my pits, and everything in between, is smooth or trimmed to perfection as the anticipation of his touch makes my heart race uncontrollably while my center aches.

I see his reflection in the mirror as he walks through our bedroom door and turns to lock it behind him. He turns and his eyes find mine in the mirror, the intensity of his gaze in combination with his rakish grin sends shivers down my spine.

“Hey, pretty lady,” he says.

There’s a seduction to his voice I haven’t heard in ages. He slowly drinks me in while he undresses. I clench my legs together to relieve some of the pressure that I already feel.

Once he’s finished taking all his clothes off, he casually leans back on the vanity with his hand crossed over his chest but doesn’t move, only stares at me with a telling smile. My whole body is on fire as he looks at me like he could eat me alive.

Yes, please.

All of a sudden, I remember that I’m naked and in full light as his gaze roams my body. His hooded eyes and growing erection indicate he likes what he sees, but this isn’t another typical day of our shower show-and-tell.

When he licks his lips, a surge spreads from my center and runs through me, making me forget everything except my desire for his body to be close to mine.

I open the shower door and smirk back at him.“Hey, yourself. Get in here.”

I move out of his way as he steps into the shower, then he ducks his head under the water to rinse. After lathering himself with his cedar citrus soap, he pumps his sudsy member a few times quickly and I have to steady my legs to stay upright. When he turns to rinse, the bubbly water slowly cascades down his broad shoulders. My eyes are locked on him, and my mouth goes dry while my mind goes blank.

Shaking my head and forcing my hands to stay at my sides while he’s finishing rinsing, I choke out, “How’d bedtime go?”

“It was good. They were worn out, so they didn’t put up much of a fight. Tell you what though, I’d be happy to never readJanie Goes to the FarmorRace Cars in the Rainagain.” He then runs his hands through his black hair to clear what’s left of the water and his eyes darken as the mood shifts between us. “But tonight, we don’t have any kids.”

“Oh yeah?”
