Alexander groaned, keeping himself in place even as she began to whimper, licking at the grooves her teeth had left in his hand and wiggling her hips the best she could with his weight on top of her.

“Are you alright?” he asked, smoothing her hair away from her face. Caroline nodded, almost pleading. She didn’t know why, but she wanted desperately for him to move. Something told her that if he moved, she would feel even more pleasure. He kissed her, a slow kiss, a calming kiss, one that told her to be patient. As he kissed her, he finally moved for the first time, raising his hips, and withdrawing half of his length from her folds slowly.

It was a smooth movement, and it drove them both wild. They groaned into their kiss, both suddenly sweating as the pleasure tickled up their spines to rain thunderbolts on their brains. When he thrust back in, Caroline saw bright lights explode behind her closed eyes and her jaw went slack. Alexander seemed similarly affected as he broke their kiss and swore loudly.

“I cannot control it anymore,” he ground out. His words were meant as a warning, because immediately after that, his hips picked up speed. Caroline’s body woke up with a jolt. Her back arched off the bed, and she felt that if not for the weight of his body, she would have been flung up, right through the ceiling.

“Oh my God, Alexander!” she was incapable of any coherent speech beyond that. She dug her nails into his shoulder blades as her body was ravished. She wasn’t sure what was happening to her. His thrusts were fast and hard, but at a steady rate that continued to hit that spot inside her that drove her mad. She was screaming, but she could not hear herself. All she heard were the soft grunts Alexander made against her ear as his hips continued to slam into hers.

It wasn’t long after that. Her body clamped down, all the way from her abdomen to the muscles in her walls that grabbed onto his hard length and refused to let go. She wrapped her limbs around him too, holding on for dear life as a frightening amount of pleasure crashed down on her, making her lightheaded. Her whole body felt like it was pulsing around him. Alexander swore again, and she felt something hot spurt out of him into her.

Her body felt very lax as he rolled off her to collapse against the pillows beside her. That was the most amazing thing she had experienced in her whole life. She couldn’t believe it. Her eyes felt heavy with sleep, and she struggled to keep them open. She felt Alexander’s arm going around her and pulling her close so that her head rested against his chest. He took her hand and raised it to his lips as her eyelids fluttered tiredly.

“Sleep well my wife, and thank you,” she heard him say as she drifted off to sleep.

….

Caroline woke first to the sun streaming through the windows, which had been left open, then to the weight of Alexander’s arm on top of her. She blinked for a moment, trying to piece together what was going on. The memories of the night before came back like a flood out of a broken dam, and she shot up into a sitting position.

“Oh my God!” she exclaimed involuntarily, waking Alexander in the process. He looked startled as he withdrew his arm from around her and looked around the room, searching for what had spooked her. When he found nothing, he looked back at her. They were both naked, so when he looked at her, his eyes fixed on her bare breasts, and for a moment, he stared, wide-eyed.

Caroline was beyond embarrassed. She wrapped the covers around her body, making Alexander look away sheepishly. He sat up more slowly than she had and pulled the covers with him so that he did not expose himself to her sensitive eyes.

Caroline, you have gone mad! Mad!She had thought her sister’s suggestion to seduce him was insane, but she had gone and done just that. Even worse, she had done it at a time when he was vulnerable. She had taken a leap of faith. If she had not gotten intoxicated, she would have talked herself out of what she did. She was not sure what to do now that she was sober, with the sun shining down on them both in the aftermath of her rash decision.

She chanced a glance at Alexander who seemed to be lost in thought over the situation they both found themselves in as well. The sun was shining on his skin, and he looked even better in the bright light than in the dim lights of the candles from the night before. The sun caught his lovely gray eyes, making him look even more dreamy than usual. In the light, those icy orbs looked almost transparent. She swallowed nervously and looked back down at the bed.

The two of them had been on good terms lately, but it didn’t mean that things could not change suddenly. He could get angry with her suddenly and erase all of their progress. She still remembered the first time they had seen some civility toward each other, only for him to suddenly revert to fighting her because he thought she was trying to trap his brother.

What if he regretted his night with her? She remembered that he had thanked her before they fell asleep. He had even called her ‘wife,’ but then that could have been because of the alcohol. What if he accused her of seducing him in his moment of weakness? What if sleeping with her only reminded him of his estranged lover? She had no experience with matters of the bedroom, so what if he was dissatisfied with her?

He looked tense, sitting there, as though he wanted to say something, but was not sure how. She prepared her heart for the worst, despite wanting more than anything for this step they had taken to only push them in the right direction. If she put her expectations too high, it would hurt terribly if it ended up being the opposite. It was better to be prepared for things to go wrong. He opened his mouth to speak, and she squeezed her eyes shut, waiting for his words.

“I am sorry,” he said, surprising her. Caroline opened her eyes and looked at him, very confused. What was he apologizing for? Did he want to say something so mean that he needed to apologize first? Maybe he wanted to tell her that he regretted it.

“I could not control myself and I took advantage of your kindness. I know you pushed yourself yesterday to help make me feel better. I should have turned you down, but I did not.” He looked ashamed.

Caroline blinked in surprise. Did he think she was pushing herself because she drank first? “No, I am the one who should apologize. I seduced you. I had to drink to instill courage in me and go after what I wanted. I thought you would be angry at me for taking advantage of your moment of weakness since you probably would never have touched me otherwise,” Caroline explained.

It was Alexander’s turn to blink in surprise. Realizing that they both thought wrongly, he let out a tired laugh. “Oh, my goodness. It seems we both had it wrong. Never would have touched you otherwise? Truthfully, I have a confession to make. Ever since our relationship improved, I have been holding back my want for you with all my might because I thought it was too soon and it would give you a bad impression of me,” Alexander said, further shocking Caroline.

Heat flared in her cheeks and she stared down at her lap. “Oh,” she squeaked. “I wanted you, too. I even asked my sister about it.” Alexander’s brows went up and she blushed even harder.

“What, pray tell, did your sister have to say to that?” he asked, playfulness in his voice.

“She advised me to seduce you,” Caroline confessed in a small voice. Alexander threw back his head and laughed at that.

“Bold! I must thank my sister-in-law when I see her next,” he joked. Caroline cracked a smile and looked up at him nervously.

“I did not possess the appropriate courage. Hence, the liquor. I was worried I would make a fool of myself. You are experienced, and I know nothing. So I worried you might not be interested in me.” It was very embarrassing to admit that, and Caroline wanted to bury her head in the covers.

Alexander leaned forward then, holding her face in his hands. “I definitely am,” he said, and kissed her.

CHAPTERTHIRTEEN

Alexander sighed and closed the ledger in front of him. He had been poring over the same page for the past hour and could not make heads or tail of it. His mind constantly drifted to Caroline. Although they had been drunk, they had finally consummated their marriage. The next morning, they had confessed to wanting each other, and had slept together again.

He ran a hand down his face as the sounds of her moans filled his brain, he could feel himself hard simply from her reactions. Her moans were his favorite sound now, just like her face of ecstasy was his favorite artwork. Since then, they had returned to their usual schedules. Because he had been unable to work during his depression over Isabella’s marriage, he had been too busy to spend extra time with Caroline. They only had breakfast, lunch, and dinner as usual.
