BEN

The sun is shining, and the bright, chipper atmosphere is a perfect representation of my mood. I’ve never been happier to wake up because I’ve never had the first sight to meet my eyes be Josie’s nude body draped over mine. Her face is snuggled against my chest, her arms looped around my side. And as much as I know I should wake her, I can’t. So, I remain still, soaking in the serenity until I feel her stir. When I glance down, I see her deep-brown eyes looking back to me. There’s some shock at first, then she realizes where she is and her head drops back to my chest as she exhales. “I really need to get up.”

“I’m not ready,” I say, gripping her tighter, and I’m thrilled when I feel her arms grasp tighter to me as well.

“Me either.” My joy is short-lived when she follows up with, “But I’m already late. I told Sarah I’d see her first thing this morning.”

“Right. I guess we really should follow that schedule nonsense today.”

Her hand jabs into my ribs as she pushes off me. “Yep. Sorry to deflate that ego, if that’s even possible, but today doesn’t revolve around you.”

She’s moving quickly around the room, but she can’t evade her feelings by taking up a task in hopes of occupying her mind.

“You can’t run from me, Josie. There’s no point in hiding from me now.” My smile is met with her eye roll and smile.

Her annoyance shows through her laughter when she says, “Yes, I know. Because you always get what you want.”

“No. Because I can’t live without waking up next to you ever again.” Her laughter fades, realizing my declaration is anything but a tease, and I know I need to put on the brakes before she literally runs off to hide from me. But I have to say it… “And I’m hoping I do get what I’ve always wanted this time. But we can figure everything out later. Let’s go give Sarah the day she’s always dreamed of.”

“Good plan.” She nods, heading across the room, but I stand and catch her wrist, gently pulling her back to me. Bending down, I give her a soft kiss and am thankful when she kisses me back.

Teasing, I give her a peck on the cheek. “You really should stop stalling. You’re behind schedule already.”

She mumbles a curse under her breath and playfully shoves me back. “You’re hopeless.”

She laughs as she disappears into the bathroom and assures me we’ll figure everything out. But for right now, we do actually need to focus on why we’re here. There’s a wedding a few hours away.

Heading into my room, I purposely leave the adjoining door open, only shutting the bathroom door as I hop in the shower. I’m out and drying off about ten minutes later. And it’s been too long since I’ve laid eyes on her. I know we’re supposed to be focused on the wedding, but I can’t get Josie and her mouthwatering curves out of my mind. A quick taste won’t make us too late. There’s plenty of time.

Walking out of the bathroom, I wrap a towel around my waist. I’m not surprised, though I am disappointed, to find she’s closed her door to my room. Stepping over, I knock against the hard wood and say her name.

No response.

My hand grips the doorknob, pausing a few seconds before turning it. Surprisingly, it’s unlocked. Maybe there is some hope. But right now, I won’t get to find out because her room is empty. I’m sure she rushed out, eager to get on schedule with my sister. And while I plan to help however I can today, I also plan to sneak in every second that I can of her in my arms throughout the day.
