“Fine, okay, I promise not to leave you. Just don’t stop.”

He raised his head, his body working its way over her body. “Are you on birth control?”

“Yes,” she panted. Upon arriving to Cambridge, she had made a doctor’s appointment, not knowing Errol’s expectations.

Without further distractions and warnings, Lucas thrust inside of her in one brutal movement.

“Bird,” he shouted, and she reveled in the ever-stoic Lucas Santos calling out her name as he held her tight, her inner muscles pulsating around him, allowing her to acclimate to him.

But before she could catch her breath, he was ramming back inside of her. And then again. Until he worked his way through her defenses and was finally fully sheathed.

His body on top of hers. The feeling of being so full, of him. It almost hurt her heart. Almost made her pine for all the lost time and opportunities when they could’ve been doing this very dirty, lurid thing.

“Ah, shit,” he breathed. “Please don’t cry.”

“Can’t help it. I love y—it, so much.”

“Bird.” His voice was reverent, his elbows cradling her head, he kissed her, and she tasted herself on his lips and didn’t care. Enjoyed it even.

He pushed her knees farther up and plunged into her again. And then again. Until it was a rhythmic staccato, his face breathing into her neck as she clasped his shoulders with her fingernails, urging him on. Moving beneath him but unable to keep up.

In the moment, as he thrust harder and deeper, she never felt closer to another human being. They were perfect together, somehow melding. And she prayed she would be able to keep her promise.

Before, she had been willing to kill to protect him and the people she loved.

Now that all the deep-seated secrets were fully exposed, their edges torn and raw, she realized although she had fewer lies to protect, she had far deeper feelings to safeguard. Feelings wrapped tight around him.

The pace he set was difficult for her to keep up with, so she bowed her back, no longer fighting to meet his thrusts.

“I feel you tightening around my cock, Bird.” He ran his tongue down her neck. “Feels so fucking good.”

His large palms pushed beneath her, lifting her hips and spreading her ass. She moaned as he speared her again and again, the pain turning to more pleasure until she felt her body reach its peak. And she was ready to fall, knowing that Lucas was there to break it.

Her muscles clamped down, holding him inside of her as he bottomed out. And then he went rigid inside her, and she felt his body turn to granite and then his release.

She held on tight as they both took turns seizing and releasing. As her insides contracted, he ejaculated more, and she felt some sort of primal satisfaction feeling it course through her body. They anchored to one another until they were spent and then bone-weary and sated.

This time together was different. It was soul-changing, heart-altering. Birdie’s body almost levitated as she lay glued to his side. Both of them struggling to calm their breathing while making sense of what happened.

They reveled in the short time they had together, knowing Flynn would be back soon to return Birdie to the estate and to her criminal of a husband, so they could continue their “ruse” as dubbed by Pinkie.

She moved closer to him as his arm pulled her into his side and he kissed her forehead.

“Don’t worry, Bird, one of two things are going to happen. Either we find the thumb drive, or we catch Errol mishandle the three million. Either way, he’s gonna get caught.”

But the question on her mind was how long it would take. Lucas had responsibilities in Wayward she knew he would never shirk.

And as much as she’d like to believe they would be together, she was also realistic. He would eventually be the one to leave. And then what?

Tati wentfrom tense to surly the closer they came to the agreed upon meeting place. Grant wasn’t sure if that was because of hunger pains or her feelings about the person from which she was going to have to ask for help.

He was beginning to wonder if her animosity toward this Alpha guy had something to do with unresolved feelings for him. He had watched Lucas and Birdie circle one another for years. He knew the signs.

The alpha male in question was waiting just inside the front doors as they entered.

He stood as if posing for a camera shot, dressed in an all-black suit with a gray shirt, no tie, and wearing mirrored aviator sunglasses. His thin dark hair hung to his shoulders with a comb-over to cover a rather large premature bald spot, likely doing his best to emulate his fictional crush, Johnny Utah, and totally missing the mark.
