Fin pulls the chair out for me, and I accept. No one has ever done that for me before. It’s kind. He sits next to me like my sisters’ husbands. My father and brother sit at the heads of the table.

Fin’s hand rests on my leg for a moment before he squeezes, and I give him a smile. My family can be hard to handle if you’re not used to us. He’s such a good sport for coming and looking happy about it.

“Fin.” My brother clears his throat. “I see Luna has become your number-one priority.”

My cheeks heat, forcing me to look away from Fin.

His hand stays on my leg. “I promised she would be.”

My smile slips, and I hate how that statement sounds. Like I’m a job to him.Oh my gosh, I am. My eyes flutter closed for the briefest moment until I get my heart pushed out of the way. I’m a job. When my family sees fit, we’ll both go our separate ways. It shouldn’t hurt this much. But with him claiming me this afternoon, I’m not sure what I thought. I’m sounding like one of those annoying girls who doesn’t know what she wants.

I know who I am. I’m a wild spirit. Every person in my life has told me this. It’s why relationships don’t work for me. But for the first time in my life, I feel like I have met someone who understands me. He doesn’t want to clip my wings; he wants to fly with me.

“I can see he’s taking good care of her.” Gia giggles, and I tilt my head to look at her.

“He’s really putting in the extra hours,” Aria adds, smirking like she knows what happened this afternoon.

I glance at my father, and he doesn’t seem to know. If he realized what Fin and I had done, his gun would be pointed at Fin’s head. I’m sure my family knows I’m not a virgin, but it’s one thing to be proven right rather than just assume. Especially to my Italian father.

“Girls,” my mother scolds. But it’s too late. I’m becoming self-conscious.

“So, you and Fin are getting along well, I see,” Gia says, wiggling her eyebrows.

My brother has taken notice and eyes us girls. I roll my eyes, pretending I have no idea what the hell they’re talking about.

“Is that a hickey?” my brother yells.

My hand immediately goes to my neck, where Fin bit me earlier.

“You have a hickey on your neck?” my mother gasps as she stares, trying to get a good look at it.

I quickly cover my neck with my hand as I hiss, “You fucking marked me?”

Fin laughs.Laughs! He should run for his life. Instead, he sits like a fucking king at the table.

“You told me to.”

Now, every set of eyes is on me. “I didn’t fucking mean it. It sounded good in a book, so I thought I’d try it.”

“Then next time, don’t demand it.” Fin shrugs and sits back in his seat, looking relaxed. “I told you this afternoon that you’re mine.” He holds my gaze, looking sincere.

I don’t even know what this means. Can I date my bodyguard? The words Ron spewed in my face come back, and I flinch. The memory is like a slap. What if I took the power from Ron and confessed everything to Fin. Would he still look at me like I’m the best thing in his life?

Fin winks and places his arm over the back of my chair. No one bats an eye. Maybe Fin and I can try dating. There’s a first time for everything. A relationship may not be that bad.

He presses a kiss to my cheek, causing heat to return to the area his lips touched. Then he stands. “I want to make a toast to Luna’s and my engagement.” He leans down and kisses my lips while I stay motionless as I try to comprehend his statement.

“What engagement?” My mouth dries instantly. Him fucking me and demanding that I am his echo back at me.

Mine. Mine.

Oh fuck, no.

“Our engagement.”

My entire family raises a glass to cheers around the table. What the fuck is happening?

“About time you made it official. I told Nicoli that if you didn’t come clean, I would tell Luna myself,” my brother replies after taking a sip of his red wine.
