“Friends?”

“Yes, friends.” I laugh. Max, without knowing it, has saved my marriage.

“I should go before the scary Irish dude tries to kill me.” He winks before his thumb points behind him. “I’ll probably pay for that wink later.” He relaxes, looking nonchalant now.

“I’ll work on him.” My mind is buzzing with ideas for my wedding.

“No need to. I understand. I wouldn’t want my woman getting too close to anyone else either.”

I walk him to the door. As we enter the hall, I embrace him in a hug, holding him tight. Because of him, I get to have the wedding of my dreams with a clear mind. Not that he will ever know.

“Congratulations on your wedding.”

“Can you do me a quick favor?”

“It’s your wedding day. Why not?”

“If I give you an address, can you go get and bring my sister Katrina here?”

He looks at his watch. We’re cutting it close for her to make the ceremony, but he doesn’t voice that. Instead, he replies, “You got it.”

Istandwatchingmyfiancée hug another man at her doorway, the same man I have told her repeatedly to stay away from. I go to pull out my gun, only to remember I’m not carrying anything. That was a stupid idea.

My phone rings in my pocket, and I turn the corner before they can see me watching them.

“What?” I growl into the cell, walking away.

“We need to talk. Where are you?” my uncle spews, sounding as angry as me.

“I’ll be back in my room in a minute.”

“Good, I’m already there.”

My steps pound the floor. Each second, I get more upset. I asked Luna for one thing. I trust no one with her. She should have never left my side.

One hour and she will be mine forever.

I walk into my room, and my uncle is standing there with his cane helping him stand.

“How are you feeling?” The way he’s looking, I don’t expect him to live past the first month of my marriage. I would have loved for him to meet my heir before his final days. My uncle is the smartest man I know. He knew Luna and I would make a good match. That’s why he asked me to stay close to her.

“I’m fine,” he barks.

“Can this wait until after the ceremony?” My emotions are raging. I’m not sure if I can deal with mafia business at this moment.

“Do you love Luna?”

“Why? What do you know?” I swear to God if he mentions the name Max, I will go on a shooting spree. Damn the consequences. I will happily toss Luna over my shoulder and lock her away to keep just for me.

“She’s planning to kill you.”

My heart drops. My body is numb. I feel absolutely nothing. It’s the same feeling I had when my sister died. My ass hits the bed as I stare up at my uncle, confused by what he’s telling me.

“I’m sorry. I’m the one who had to tell you. But that’s not our only problem.”

Again, I see his lips moving, but my mind is revolting against the idea. Luna wouldn’t kill me. And on our wedding day?
