My mind refuses to answer that question.

Nausea roils in my stomach. The only reason I’m not running to the bathroom is to save face with my uncle.

My neck strains, and I try to stretch it out by tilting my head from side to side. My tie is suddenly choking me, and I loosen the knot at the base of my throat. I crack each knuckle on one hand before I complete the same process on the other.

“The Russians know we stole their diamonds. We’re going to have to take them out as soon as possible.”

My uncle limps out of the room, his cane doing most of the work to carry his weight.

Each breath I take echoes throughout the entire room. My hand wipes down my face, my skin feeling tighter than before.

I pull out the diamond ring I had made for Luna from that shipment, and a pitiful chuckle leaves me. Luna Rossi plans to murder me, making this ring for her a joke.

My muscles strain as I stand, the task more difficult than a moment ago. I suddenly feel naked without my guns. How can I just stand here, knowing everything we shared meant nothing to her?

Chapter 27

Fin

Theweddingceremonywassupposed to start five minutes ago. I take a swig of gin, then wash it back with some tonic from a can.

Ten minutes.

I take all the bullets out of my handgun and then replace them, double checking each one.

Fifteen minutes.

I add an extra gun for good measure.

Bang! Bang!

Fists pound at my door. I wondered how long it would take for them to come and get me.

I open up to see Luna’s brother’s scowling ugly mug, looking ready to shoot the door open. It would hurt less than the betrayal that’s stabbing my chest right now.

“You’re fucking late.”

“I’m coming right now.” I close the door behind me, my arm brushing against the multiple guns on my torso. “The women will never know. They won’t be there for a while yet.”

“Luna’s been waiting.” His jaw tics. “Our mother was already talking about bad luck, and now this.”

I pat his shoulder. “It’s going to be a good day.”

He looks back at me, his lips pursed, jaw hard.He wants to kill me.“You look like shit. What the fuck happened after we left?”

“Everything is good, man. My head is clear. Clearer than it has ever been before.”

He grunts. Our strides are long, with purpose. The doors to the ceremony open, and I walk in with Luca. Romeo and Kane are already standing at the front, waiting.

There are a few murmurs, but my death glare silences everyone. I take my place at the front, by the priest. The ceremony is packed with people. Scanning the room, my eyes land on my uncle, who gives me a knowing nod.

Soft music plays, and the double doors swing open once again, Luna’s bridesmaids walking in one step at a time. First is her sister, Aria. Gia is second, and I watch as Luna’s Fanny sneaks into the room.

My eyes land on Katrina as she sits, looking nervously at the front of the room. She’s almost hidden by the amount of flowers that line each row and every possible corner of the room.

The doors close, and the music fades away. A minute passes. Then two. The low murmurs begin just as the music starts up again.

Even in my broken rage, my jaw drops when I see her. Luna’s long hair is twisted into a braid on one side of her head and goes past her shoulder. It reminds me of how my sister had done her hair. The red dress she was wearing earlier is gone. Her slim waist and body are encased in white lace. It hugs her hips, and there are no guns to show.
