My mouth dries. She is a vision.A master manipulator. My body hums with her energy. I want her like I have never wanted anything in my life. My mind is swimming with her truths. They fight against each other. She takes one step at a time. She holds onto her father’s arm, but my eyes stay on her face. She is beyond breathtaking. Gorgeous doesn’t even begin to describe her. She watches the audience, and her eyes land on Max.

He gives her a fucking wink.

And a hand is placed on my tense shoulder.

“Enjoy these moments. Relax,” someone says from behind.

Luna looks up, and our eyes connect. My breath is stolen from me once again. Even my dick strains against my pants. It’s another reminder she owns my body. Her eyes shine, and our emotions flow between the two of us.

The doors close. No one is getting out of here unless I say so. My guns feel heavy against me as I blow out a shaky breath. This is what I have been trained for my entire life.

I take her hand from her father, and Nicoli kisses her cheek.

“You look good in white,” I whisper into her ear, but all I can think about is how red would have hidden what I’m about to do.

I can feel everyone’s eyes on us. Their expectations. If only they knew she betrayed me first. I wait, seeing if she’s going to make it easy on me.

“Fin,” my uncle hisses. I know what he wants. He wants me to whip my gun out before anyone has a chance to stop me.

I slip my hands from her, and she eyes me, but the priest begins talking, ordering me to take her hands in mine once again.

And as we say our vows, my fingers stay on hers. I slide the diamond ring I had made onto her hand while my senses are hyperaware of her. I watch her lips move with each word, and her hands don’t tremble; they stay firm, laced with my own. Apparently, she’s waiting until our vows are done before she makes herself a widow. My guns practically vibrate as my heartbeat rockets out of control.

After everything we’ve been through….

My thoughts keep scrambling. Part of me believes I can love her while I’m dead as much as I can love her alive. My gun carries a blank in the first; she’ll be able to kill me before I ever get a real chance to do it to her. But at least I’ll die without my uncle being ashamed of me.

“You may kiss the bride.”

My hand pulls her to me by her neck, and my lips crush hers. I kiss her hard, knowing this will be our last. When I pull away, I keep my grip around the back of her neck.

My fingers tingle as I unbutton my suit coat with my free hand. “I can’t be the man who doesn’t wear a gun.” It’s the best apology I can give. Her face falls when she reads my expression. Our eyes stay connected as I pull my gun out, and I let go of her neck.

She already knows. I could feel it in our kiss, and so could she. I can see it in her eyes. She doesn’t beg for her life. She tilts her chin higher.

“It’s not what you think,” she whispers, and I flip off the safety of my gun, its barrel aimed at her heart. It’s how I killed my father. “Do it. If I were in your position, I’d never hesitate,” she confirms.

The room is in chaos around us, but all I can see is her. Their screams and commotion are background noise compared to her soft, honey-like voice.

I pull the trigger at the same time bullets are sprayed in our direction. I’m hit in the arm and chest, my protection beneath my clothing saving me. I watch as Luna falls to the ground, knowing it wasn’t my bullet that caused the damage, and I watch as red seeps through her dress.

I twist around, ready to kill the person who took my moment away from me. I expect my uncle to be standing, his gun up. Instead, our ceremony is surrounded by Russians who have their guns pointed at Nicoli and my uncle.

Chapter 28

Fin

I make the mistake of glancing down at Luna. Red seeps farther, into the lace of her dress, painting it the color she had on before. My heart turns to stone as her mother drapes herself over her, crying hysterically. Fucking Max has taken his shirt off and is pressing it against her chest the best he can with her mother clinging to her. It looks like I shot her when I didn’t. It was a Russian bullet.

I force myself to stop looking at Luna and turn my attention to the Bratva. It will do her no good if all her family dies today. She needs help, and I have to create a distraction to allow her to get it.

The head of the group, Demetri, has a wolfish grin plastered on his face.

“You’ve disrespected three families, Demetri,” I warn. Everyone has their guns out, but no one dares to fire when the Russians hold both Nicoli and Leo.

Demetri chuckles. “I did you a favor, O’Conner. I want my diamonds back.”

“Let Nicoli and Leo go. Let’s talk like men,” I attempt to reason with him. His eyes are bright, seeming to be excited about the war he’s creating.
