“What did you say?”

“You’re not deaf, Darren. You heard me.”

“I’m not sure I wanted to hear that with such clarity.” Darren snorted. “Come off it, as if Chantelle will agree to be with all three of us. She’s not the type to get involved with that.”

“But suppose she did agree to it.” Cedric arched an eyebrow at him, a sly smile tugging at his mouth. “If we were ever given an indication that she wanted the three of us together, would you go for it?”

Darren didn’t know. True, he and his friends shared pretty much everything, but they had never shared a woman. Tonight with Kayla would have been the first time, and that hadn’t happened. Then again, while Kayla was a beautiful woman, she wasn’t Chantelle. Chantelle was special.

Could he actually manage to share her with Matt and Cedric?

A snarl from upstairs, followed by a loud bang, had all three of them looking up. Matt sat up.

“What the hell was that?”

Darren was out of the kitchen first, heading up the stairs and towards Cedric’s room. Chantelle was standing with her back to him, wearing nothing but a towel. He could see something in pieces on the floor by the wall, and he could hear Chantelle breathing heavily.

“Chantelle?”

“The fucking bastard won’t fucking listen.”

Darren swallowed.

“Let me guess. Wade?”

“Yep. And he won’t leave me alone.” Chantelle turned suddenly, clutching the towel to her chest. Her eyes were bright as she stared at him. “Do you think I'm pathetic, Darren?”

“What?”

“Do you think me worthless and pathetic?”

Where was this coming from? Darren frowned.

“Of course I don’t. I’ve never thought that.”

“That’s what Wade thinks. He called me that when I said I was leaving him.” Chantelle swallowed. “How can a man who claimed to love me call me something like that? Degrade me in the hopes I’ll stay with him? How does that work?”

“Sometimes, there are times when we can never give a definitive answer. Especially when it comes to your husband.”

Chantelle made a face.

“Husband. I hate that word. I wish I’d never married him.”

Darren didn’t know what to say to that. He heard movement behind him and glanced over his shoulder to see Matt and Cedric coming into the room. They were staring at Chantelle. It was like neither of them had seen Chantelle in a towel before.

Then again, they hadn’t been discussing sharing her before.

“He has said before that I won’t be attractive to other guys. Nobody would take me except him.” Chantelle snorted. “He really liked to make me feel bad about myself.”

Matt looked confused.

“He really said that?”

“He wanted me to stay with him. Make sure I didn’t look anywhere else.”

Darren stepped towards her.

“He just wanted to make you feel miserable so he could feel justified in what he had done. He knew he was doing wrong, and he took it out on you.”
