The doorbell rang. Cedric groaned and shook his head.

“I’m not getting that.” He pushed off the couch and headed out of the room. “I’m going to shower and get myself clean.”

Darren wasn’t moving, either. Matt sighed. He was going to have to get it, and he was in no mood for visitors. Getting up from the couch, he headed into the hallway. Whoever it was could go the fuck away.

His sharp retort died away as he opened the door and saw Chantelle on the porch. She was dressed in a denim dress with a red jacket, her hair loose down her back. For a moment, Matt thought he was seeing things. Chantelle wasn’t on their doorstep.

She couldn’t be.

“Matt?” Chantelle’s expression shifted. Now she looked nervous. “Are you going to let me in or am I going to stay on the porch?”

“I...why are you here, Chantelle?”

Chantelle swallowed. For a moment, Matt thought she was going to bolt. Then she tugged him towards her and kissed him. Matt froze. He wanted to grab her and drag her inside, just so he could kiss her as he really wanted, but he stopped himself. He was not going to melt because a beautiful woman was kissing him.

Even if it was starting to work.

Chantelle broke the kiss slowly, her eyes lifting up to his. Matt was shocked to see the tears in her eyes.

“I need to talk to you. All of you.” She chewed her lower lip. “Can I come in?”

Wordlessly, Matt stepped aside, closing the door in a trance. Chantelle stood in the middle of the hall, holding onto the bag strap across her chest.

“Where are Darren and Cedric? Are they home?”

“Yeah.” Matt glanced up the stairs. “Although they may not be too keen on seeing you, either.”

Chantelle winced.

“I’m really sorry about that. But I was working through a lot of things. I still am, I guess.” She looked around. “Please, I just want to get this out. Afterwards, you can do whatever you want to me. As long as you hear me out.”

Matt wished that didn’t sound as erotic as it should. He went to the stairs and shouted up.

“Cedric! Get down here! You’re needed!” He nodded at the living room. “Darren’s in there. Just brace yourself. He likes listening to baseball on high at the moment.”

Chantelle nodded. Then she squared her shoulders and entered the living room. Darren looked up, doing a double-take when he saw her. He fumbled for the remote and turned off the TV before jumping to his feet.

“Chantelle. What are you doing here?”

Matt thought Chantelle was going to go into a speech, but suddenly she burst into tears. She ran at Darren and threw her arms around his waist.

“I’m sorry.” She croaked. “I’m so sorry.”

Still looking shocked, Darren put his arms around her, holding her close. Matt’s chest tightened as he saw Chantelle shaking in his friend’s arms.

“What’s going on?” Cedric appeared at his side, wearing only his jeans. His mouth fell open. “Oh.”

Chantelle turned, still in Darren’s arms. She wiped at her wet cheeks.

“I had a lot planned out to say to you guys, and it’s all coming out in a mess.”

“Try.” Matt folded his arms. “I think we all need to hear this. If you’re here to reject us, make it quick.”

“Reject you?” Chantelle frowned. “Why would I reject you?”

“Maybe because someone ruined the moment by saying ‘I love you’?” Darren chimed in.

Matt groaned.
