Allison glanced at her.

“You want to know if you can handle being with three guys at once, don’t you?”

“I’m...I don’t know what I’m thinking.” Marigold shifted in her seat. “The idea of having three guys worshiping me is both exciting and frightening. I don’t think I’d be able to cope. I’d be worried if I was giving one guy more attention than the other, and that’s not fair.”

Allison laughed.

“That’s fair. I still have that problem.”

“How do you get around it?”

“Leon and Stephen do it for me. They’re very good at making sure I’m focused on myself and not on splitting my time with them. They deal with it for me.”

“I don’t know if I could do that.”

“My cousin was like that. Do you remember cousin Myra Brown?”

Marigold frowned.

“She’s a cop in Seattle, isn’t she?”

“Yep. She’s a big control freak. She has to be in charge, and it’s hard for her to let go. Guess what?” Allison giggled. “She’s with three other cops in a poly relationship. It’s not broadcast at work, but everyone in the family knows.”

Marigold stared.

“Seriously? She’s with three guys?”

“Yep. The guys didn’t want to back off, and they were willing to share. Myra had become a lot more relaxed with them around. If anything, they actually calm her down and loosen up. They’re good for her, and it’s clear she loves all of them.” Allison shrugged. “If someone like cousin Myra can manage with something that’s unusual, then I’m sure you can. Imagine having three guys focused on you.”

Marigold didn’t know what to say to that. She had to admit it sounded like a dream, but when the dream became a reality, she found herself panicking. God, she was a mess.

“I can see your brain turning, Marigold.” Allison patted her knee. “You’re thinking too much. Stop doing that and take a deep breath. It will work itself out.”

“What if my parents find out? What if people start talking?”

“Do you really care about that? It’s your love life, not theirs. So it’s nothing to do with them.”

Marigold knew she was right, but she knew it was going to be a struggle for her parents to understand. They were very traditional, and they were only just beginning to talk again after Marigold refused to marry a family friend’s kid because they were of the same class. In their eyes, it was perfect. In Marigold’s eyes, she was being used as a pawn. She loved her parents, but she preferred them in small doses, which was why she was across the country.

She shouldn’t care how they thought about her situation, but she knew the phone calls and messages from all her family members were going to ramp up. They had only just died down after she dumped Trey; they adored him because he was rich, and they thought Marigold should have sucked it up.

It’s like Allison said. None of their business. Do something for you for once. There’s nothing wrong with that.

They arrived at Marigold's apartment, and Allison helped Marigold up the stairs and into her apartment.

“Do you need me to do anything for you?” She asked. “I can do a treat run, if you like.”

“A treat run?”

“You know, get some chocolate and ice cream. Anything that will make you feel better.”

Marigold grimaced.

“I don’t think that will go down well right now. I’m just going to curl up on the couch and watch mindless TV.”

“If you’re sure?” Allison put Marigold’s bag on the coffee table. “I’ll get back to work. Darren said they would come by after work. Unless you don’t want them around.”

“I think it’s best if I talk to them. I can’t keep avoiding them.”
