His touch was so soothing it was going to send her to sleep if he carried on...

A knock at the door had Marigold jolting up. Darren eased her off him and stood up.

“I’ll be right back. That’s probably Jake and Nathan.”

“CJ let them leave work this early?”

Darren arched an eyebrow.

“Early? It’s five-thirty.”

“What?”

Marigold looked at the clock. She had been asleep all afternoon? How had she not noticed? She sat up and adjusted her t-shirt, checking that her hair wasn’t in a mess. Then she wondered what she was doing; they had seen her naked, first thing in the morning. They couldn’t care less what she looked like.

She was just glad she could see them.

Nathan was the first one who came into the room. He went straight to her and sagged onto the couch, pulling her into a hug.

“It feels so good to do that.” He drew back and smiled as he cupped her cheek in his hand. “You have no idea how much I’ve missed that.”

Marigold couldn’t help but smile, even if it was weak.

“You decided to keep away from me all this time.”

“Only because I knew if I touched you, I wouldn’t be able to stop.”

“Well, stop right now.” Jake said, kneeling in front of Marigold. “This little lady needs some loving care, not us pawing her.” His smile softened as he touched Marigold’s knees. “How you doing, love?”

Love. The second time she had been called that today. Marigold hugged him, sighing as she felt his arms tighten around her.

“Better now you’re here.” She drew back and sighed as she rested her forehead against Jake’s. “I’m sorry. I’m really sorry.”

“For what?”

“For everything.” Marigold slowly sat back on the cushions, aware that all three men were watching her. “I did something thinking it would be a one-off, and it just made everything messy. I messed around with everyone.”

Jake looked bemused. Darren watched her in silence with his arms folded. Nathan snorted.

“You think you’re to blame for this? We all agreed to it. We didn’t expect things to happen afterwards.”

“We did give you the space you wanted.” Darren pointed out. “You said you were planning on being single for a while. We respected that.”

“And that was hell for us.” Jake grunted.

Marigold could tell; his hands were back on her knees and digging a little hard into her joints. She flinched, which had Jake letting go.

“Sorry.”

“I’m fine.” Marigold stared at him. “If you wanted something more, why didn’t you approach me about it?”

Jake glanced at Darren before sitting back.

“Because Darren had made it clear that he had feelings for you. Nathan and I had our own motives, but we knew if we approached you, it would fracture what we had.”

Darren had feelings for her? Marigold tried to get the words to sink in, but they kept bouncing back. Her mouth fell open as Darren blushed.

“You...then why didn’t you say anything?” She demanded.
