“Because I’m a fucking coward.” Darren looked like he wanted to run away. “I didn’t want the rejection.”
“You thought I would reject you?”
“We thought you would reject all of us.” Nathan took her hand. “We weren’t prepared for you to be with just one of us. It was all of us, or not at all, even if it killed us.”
Marigold listened to this in stunned silence. She was aware of Jake and Nathan’s lifestyle, but she hadn’t expected for them to be interested in her like that. Add into that Darren had feelings for her...
Somehow, the thought of being with one guy and not the rest didn’t sit well with her. Marigold couldn’t imagine it.
“And now?” Her hand instinctively went to her still-flat belly. “What’s changed?”
Both Jake and Nathan looked at Darren, who reached down and tugged Marigold to her feet.
“We know one of us is the dad, and the truth is, we don’t care who it is. All of us want to be there. We want to help raise this baby and look after you. I’m sure four pairs of hands are certainly better than two. This child won’t be left wanting with us around.”
“You...you mean it?”
“We do have a condition, though.” Darren glanced at Nathan, who nodded. “You accept all of us into your life. In your bed. In your heart. You just need to say the word, and we’ll not be going anywhere. And, I promise you, we’ll make sure you are the main focus.”
They were suggesting she entered into a relationship with all three of them? For a moment, Marigold wondered if she was still dreaming. She gulped.
“You’re not mad about that? I know you said you didn’t share.”
Darren smiled and kissed her forehead.
“It’s a new thing for me, too, but Jake and Nathan are my friends. I don’t want to hurt them by taking you for myself, just as much as I don’t want to be hurt if they make you theirs. I trust them.” He arched an eyebrow over her head at Jake. “But we all have to be in the room when sex happens. That’s my only condition for this.”
“Fine by me.” Jake moved to stand in close behind Marigold. “All we need is a yes.”
Marigold knew she wouldn’t be able to choose between any of them. They all drew her in, and she didn’t think she could separate her feelings. Nathan was the lighthearted one who made things fun, Jake was the level-headed one, and Darren...he was the one who had been the most steady person in her life since they met. Marigold couldn’t even think of throwing them aside for just one.
She rose up on tiptoe and kissed Darren, leaning into the kiss as he returned it. She drew back as he tried to pull her against him, and she beckoned Nathan over.
“I think you can guess my answer with what I’m doing, can’t you?”
“I sure can.” Nathan smirked as he stood up and kissed her, cradling her close. “It’s a shame we can’t celebrate this, not when you’re still feeling delicate.”
Jake groaned.
“You’re constantly thinking about sex?”
“Why not? You know I do.”
Marigold laughed. She leaned back and tugged Jake’s head down for a kiss, moaning into his mouth.
“I’m sure I can be persuaded. But not right now. I want to give you guys my full attention and not my stomach.”
“We can wait.” Darren wrapped his arms around her waist and drew her close, smiling as he kissed her. “We’ve got all the time in the world.”
