“True,” she says. “But you have a talent that would boost you to the top with very little effort. And keep you where you needed to be.”

My brow furrows. “I’m not following.”

“Heaven’s light,” she says. “Unless that rumor isn’t true?” She stands and walks to the front of her desk and leans against it. “I asked Professor Cardale to confirm it for me but he wouldn’t. It was the oddest thing. Usually rumors around here are accurate. But his denial made me wonder. Either he’s hiding something or you are.”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” I say.

“Either way, if someone were to use heaven’s light a few times during the course of the semester, none of the other students would stand a chance,” she says.

“Even if I could, I wouldn’t,” I say. “Who would do such a thing?”

“Oh?” She lifts an eyebrow. “I suppose. Plenty of students have killed for the pass but it wouldn’t be veryangelicto do.”

“From what I hear, it would be on par with angel history,” I say.

“That’s true,” she says. “However, angels have other powers too. Other magic that is far more powerful or at leastaspowerful as demons.”

“Well, since nobody teaches anything about magic for non-demons other than my one class, I guess I’ll never really know all the things I might be able to do,” I say.

“You might want to talk to that professor of yours,” she says. “He’s holding out on you.”

“What do you mean?” I ask.

“There are ways for angels to grow their power beyond anything we’ve ever seen in the Underworld. I suspect that’s why the King of the Kingdom of Keys is so interested in you,” she says.

I tense and a shiver runs down my spine. I want to ask her what she knows about that but I’m afraid I’ve already said too much.

The door opens and a few students walk in to gather their things. The bell rings.

“Dismissed,” Professor Lee says.

I don’t wait. As quickly as I can, I grab my bag and get out of there. Adrian was gone all break so we haven’t even talked in two weeks. Looks like I’m going to have to drop by his room for a visit.

I only get a few steps down the hall when someone blocks my path. I frown up at Damon. “I’m in a hurry.”

“What was all that between you and Liam?” he asks.

My eyes widen as I recall my bare ass against the classroom door. But there’s no way he knows I just did that with Liam. Unless Liam was already telling everyone.Fuck.I really shouldn’t have done that.

“You and a professor?” he asks in hushed tones.

My shoulders drop in relief. “Why do you care, anyway?”

“Because Corbin is pretty serious about you,” he says.

Guilt twists in my gut. I was supposed to get to spend break with him but he ended up visiting his grandparents last minute. So it was me and Sadie all break. I haven’t even had a chance to see him aside from our few minutes in class.

“Don’t break his heart,” Damon says.

I don’t get a chance to answer before he walks away.

The last thing I want to do is hurt Corbin. We have chemistry but it’s different than what I feel with Adrian. Or Liam even. The two of us connect on a deeper level and I’ve never felt pressured by him to jump into bed. It’s like he knows exactly what I need to hear. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t fantasized about what he’d look like naked.

The hall empties as everyone rushes to class. I shake off Damon’s visit and run down the hall. I’m late, which is not how I wanted to kick off my second class of the new term.

Besides, this is the one class I want to get to early. I race through the halls and down the stairs. The familiar musty scent of the dungeons is comforting in an odd way. Of all my classes, this is the one that’s the most useful.

It doesn’t hurt that the professor running it is sexy as hell. And also maybe my mate if I believe him. I stop right before I walk into the classroom.Oh shit.Adrian says he’s my mate but I’ve been dating Corbin, flirting with Damon, and now I’ve fucked Liam.
