The sound of shouting fills the room and instead of basking in a post coital glow, we jump to our feet and quickly get into our clothes.

Liam reaches the door first and I’m right behind him when he pulls it open. People are all running in the same direction. Screams and whoops echo through the hall.

We join the chaos and move with the crowd toward the front of the school. My heart falls into my stomach as I see the empty score board on the wall.

Em stands on a table in front of the empty plaques, her arm in the air. She’s holding a small bottle that must have held the potion that accompanied the reset spell.

I want to slap that look of satisfaction right off her face.

“Well, guess that’s over,” Liam says.

I turn my glare to him. “This is your fault.”

“My fault?” he asks.

“You distracted me,” I say.

“You came to me willingly,” he says.

“You must have done something to me,” I say. “You made yourself irresistible.” It was true. Even now I still felt a pull to him I can’t explain.

“Why thank you for that,” he says with a smirk.

I shake my head. This is exactly why I never should have had sex with him. It wasn’t a good idea. He already cost me too much. He was a distraction. And it wasn’t like being with him was going to get me anywhere. I’m sure it’s a one time thing that he wanted for bragging rights.

Feeling played, I walk away from him. I don’t have time for games right now and Liam is the most dangerous game of all. For reasons I can’t explain, I feel something for him. I shouldn’t. But I do. And I know I have to walk away before I let him get to me again.

After pushing through the crowd, I make my way to Professor Lee’s classroom to collect the things I left there.

The classroom is empty with the exception of Professor Lee. She’s sitting behind her desk and turns to look at me.

“I take it you didn’t find the spell?” she asks.

“No,” I say, the bitterness clear in my tone.

“I thought for sure you’d find it,” she says.

“Well, Em found it, so she reset everything,” I say. “Which I’m sure is exactly what you wanted.”

“Why would you think that?” she asks.

“Because why else give us a task like that?”

“I give that same assignment to my second semester students every spring semester,” she says. “This is the first time the potion was ever used to complete the spell.”

“Really?” I ask.

She nods. “I’m surprised that it was reset. Especially as most second semester students are aware of how the ranking changes.”

“Magic,” I say.

“Yes,” she agrees.

“Non-demons don’t get as much chance to use magic,” I say.
