“Is this about the professor?” he asks, keeping his voice low.

My brows raise. “You know about that?”

“Come on,” he says. “Liam knows, everyone knows.”

I cover my face with my hands.

Corbin lowers my hands from my face. “It’s not a big deal.”

“But you and me, we’re dating, we’re something. I don’t know what we are,” I say. “And there’s more.”

“Harper,” he says. “Are you trying to get rid of me?”

“No,” I say.

“Then what is the problem?” he asks.

There’s no easy way to say it so I just let it out. “I slept with Liam and he says I’m his mate.”

Corbin stares at me. I feel his gaze but it’s not judgmental. I’m not sure what it is.

“There’s more,” I say.

He lifts a brow.

“Professor Cardale says I’m his mate too. But I don’t know what it all means,” I say.

Corbin grabs my hand. “It means I have to share you. Which, I admit, isn’t my first choice. But it happens.”

“You’re not upset?” I ask.

“Honestly?” He takes a step closer. “I’m jealous that they got to have you first.”

“I don’t deserve you,” I say.

He leans down so his lips are hovering over mine. “Never say that.”

“Students,” Professor Maxim’s voice echoes through the greenhouse, breaking our moment. “Bring your harvest. It’s time to find out what these plants can do together.”

Reluctantly, I step away from Corbin and kneel down to scoop up our pile of leaves.

We walk over to join the group in the center of the greenhouse. There’s a makeshift classroom of sorts here. A dozen benches are arranged in a circle and a giant black cauldron sits in the center.

I glance over at Corbin. “A cauldron?”

He shrugs. “They have their uses.”

“Excellent,” Professor Maxim says as all the students gather in a circle around the pot.

“Three of those leaves, Ms. Love,” he directs.

I pass the leaves to Corbin and then count three from the pile. I walk over to the cauldron and hesitate in front of it.

“Yes, yes, in the pot,” the professor confirms.

I drop them in and step back to watch as he summons other students to deposit their ingredients.

One pair is holding a pile of slithering worm like creatures and I shudder. Both girls wear a look of disgust as they drop the purple, gooey worm things into the pot. I’m grateful I wasn’t dealing with that plant.
