Epilogue

Six Months Later

Harper

My stomach twists in knots as I stand at the door.

“You going to ring the bell?” Damon asks.

“Give her a minute,” Corbin says.

I take a deep breath and shift the package I’m holding so I can free a hand to ring the doorbell.

I shouldn’t be nervous. We’ve talked on the phone a few times and James knows exactly what I’ve been through.

As soon as I got out of Brimstone, I found a way to call him and Sasha. Who knew my best friends were both mages? I was too relieved to worry about the fact that they kept that information from me.

Looking back, I wonder if that’s why I always felt so safe and comfortable around them.

The door opens and James screams when he sees me.

Tears stream down my face and a rush of emotions I can’t even explain swirl through me. Someone takes the gift from me and James grabs me for the tightest hug ever.

The second I’m in his embrace I feel like no time has passed. It doesn’t feel like we’ve been apart for a year and a half.

Another squeal comes from behind James and I barely make out Sasha’s face before she joins us in the hug.

All three of us are crying now.

When they finally release me, Sasha grabs me again for another squeeze. “Girl, seriously. If I knew it would take an engagement party to get you here, I would have gone on more dates.”

“We both know you’d still be single, anyway,” James says.

Sasha shoves him. “Just because you found the man of your dreams doesn’t mean you get to be rude about it.”

“It is my party,” James teases.

“And you’re keeping your guests standing on the doorstep?” I say with mock annoyance.

“Wait, is this all of them?” James says, looking at my mates.

I sweep my arm out and introduce each of them. “James, Sasha, meet Damon, Corbin, Liam, and Adrian, my mates.”

Sasha’s eyes sweep over them. “I can’t even find one decent guy and you found a whole collection.”

“Don’t worry, we make her work for it,” Damon says.

“I bet you do,” James says. “Come on in, everyone.”

Sasha and James manage to give a hug to each of my mates and they both pull me in tight again.

I missed them so much it hurt. But it didn’t feel right leaving the Underworld until I felt like I had more control over my powers. I was also waiting to make sure things settled down after all the chaos we went through at Brimstone.

Turns out, the royal family had been looking for ways to get Alastor Drake off the throne ever since the plot with my mom went down. Liam gave them the final push. And Liam was fitting in nicely in his new position as his Aunt Lucinda’s chief advisor.

It kept Liam busy, which left me with the other three to work on magic. The Palace of Keys had an extensive library. Add in the books we liberated from the hidden library at Brimstone and we learned a lot about what I could do.

Make that what we can all do.
