“What do you mean?” she said softly, slightly narrowing her eyes.

I grabbed her hand. “Come with me. I want to show you who I truly am,” I said calmly despite deep down being faintly anxious. Anxious that after revealing my dark side to her, she would leave. But I knew it was time to come clean. Especially before I implemented my plan in life, she had to know who I really was. She had to be aware of what kind of man she was falling for.

I led her to the library off the main living room. Its design was dark, unlike the rest of my apartment. There was a fireplace, a glass table in the middle, and a comfy cream-colored leather couch—a seemingly ordinary room.

“So?” Melanie asked, looking around the place. “Am I supposed to know who you truly are because of the library?”

I chuckled before moving closer to the wall perpendicular to the fireplace or the couch and opening a small recess with a biometric technique allowing fingerprint and retina scanning. I pressed my thumb on the biometric before it scanned my retinas, and the wall started to move. I glanced at Melanie, who was stunned at the sight of dozens of different types of weapons hanging in the secret storage compound.

“What the hell?” she whispered, her eyes and mouth wide open. She looked at me, confused, I could tell the adrenaline was rushing through her veins as she swallowed and her breath quickened. “Who are you?”

I slowly took a few steps toward Melanie, expecting her to be scared or even run. Instead, she stood there observing me. Her eyes didn’t fill with fear but rather confusion and anticipation. “I’m involved with the Mafia,” I said darkly. “My whole family is, with my father being the boss, and I, his heir.”

“I knew you weren’t normal,” she whispered, still dazed. “Are you going to hurt me?”

I shook my head, frowning. I slid my hand around her neck. “Of course not. I won’t let anyone hurt you. I’ll keep you safe, Melanie.”

“I thought I was crazy,” she said softly, not breaking eye contact.

“Why?”

“Because I knew it from the day I met you.”

My eyes darted between hers. Now I was the one puzzled.

“I felt it, Shane,” she continued, her voice strong, without a trace of fear. “Then, after that incident with your father….”

“Yeah, he’s not too subtle about it.”

She chuckled. “No. Definitely not.”

“So, aren’t you scared? Mad?” She handled the news way better than I had imagined. Actually, she dealt with the news so well that I was taken aback.

“I am not scared, Shane.” She slid her hand to the back of my head, our gazes locked. “You’re going to protect me. You promised.”

I nodded faintly, caressing the soft skin of her neck with my thumb. “I will protect you, Melanie. You’re my priority now. But you have to know that my lifestyle is dangerous. Iamdangerous.”

She let out a deep sigh. Her gaze dropped down for a short moment. “You could be a serial killer and I still wouldn’t let you go,” she whispered before her eyes moved up to meet mine. “I can’t help the attraction toward you. Call me crazy, but I’m addicted. You’re the drug I can’t resist.”

“I feel the same way. Nothing in this world intoxicates me as you do, Melanie. You're like a drug flowing through my veins. And I don't want to sober up. I want to overdose on you.”

“I already did.” She sank into my touch, biting her lower lip before standing on her toes to reach my ear. “Now, I want you to show me how you really are. No limits.”

“What do you mean?” I growled as she provocatively sucked my earlobe.

She looked into my eyes, her hands around my neck. “Forget everything that happened. Everything that I told you. Don’t define me by my past, and I won’t define you by the prism of your… profession. Let’s start from a blank page.”

“Okay,” I whispered, our lips only inches apart. “Blank page.”

“Good.” She intertwined her fingers with my hair, pulling me closer, so our lips were parted only by the mesh of our heavy breaths. She slid one of her hands underneath my shirt, scraping my abs with her nails, causing my muscles to tense. Her eyes still locked with mine, biting her lip sultrily. “Now fuck me. Rough. Wild. Just like you like it.”

“You asked for this,” I growled before crashing my lips onto hers to kiss her, rough, demanding.

Not breaking our heated tangle, I led her toward the couch before, with one swift move, turning her body back on me. I brushed her hair away and tore the white woolen dress she wore apart, and she gasped. I moved my hand up her bare back, sliding the other around her waist, and bent her against the leather backrest of the couch.

“I’m going to be rough,” I said, my tone low. “Are you sure you want this?”

“Yes,” she breathed, her round breast pressed against the leather fabric.
