He didn’t acknowledge my snarky response. “The reality of my situation has required me to make adjustments. I am only capable of being in half of your life, at best. Should you lose a loved one, the service would likely be during the daylight hours when I could not attend. When I worried you were ill, I had to send you for tests alone as I couldn’t accompany you. That is the reality of what I can and cannot offer, and it means I have been forced to recognize some benefits to such an…” He paused as if looking for the right word. “Arrangement. It isn’t what I expected, but perhaps it is what would work.”

“So you’re saying you’re fine with it?”

“I am saying that if the choice is between sharing you and losing you, I am willing to try whateverlets me have you.”

It wasn’t his words that got me, it was how he said them. Kase was a hard man to read, and a harder one to trust, however in that moment, I believed every word.

I leaned up, slipping my hand behind his neck, and offered him a slow, sweet kiss.

He flinched, then caught my hands and pulled them away. Before the rejection could set in—and boy it was about to—he pressed me back on the rock and trapped my hands above my head. “Can I kiss you?”

“Yes, you stupid—”

He silenced the rest of my tirade with a kiss that made my heart speed and my back arch. The man wassinfulwith those fangs, with the way he moved his lips against mine, how he took me over so wonderfully until I was mindless.

But as fast as it happened, he stopped.

I wanted to complain, to tempt him back, but the glow of headlights in the distance clued me in.

The werewolf was here, which meant we had a job to do.

So even though I’d rather stay there and never stopping kissing Kase, it seemed we needed to be responsible.

Besides, if we didn’t fix this, if we couldn’t save the world, well that would put a damper on how much more of Kase’s skills I could test out.

And that was something worth saving the world for.
