“Are you really here or am I hallucinating?”

If it was a hallucination, I didn’t want it to go away a moment sooner than it had to. A finger touched my collar bone and slowly slid down my chest to find my pendant.

“I love that you’re still wearing it. It makes me feel like you’re mine.”

Lucas removed his hand from me and remained silent for a moment, then he chuckled.

“Are you going to open your eyes?”

“Still debating,” I said almost out of breath.

“What’s there to debate about?” he tried to sound serious, but I heard the amusement in his tone.

“If it’s worth the risk of waking up and finding out you’re a dream.”

I heard him sigh before he ordered me to move. He lay next to me on the sunbed, his hand found my bare thigh, and positioned my leg over his. His fingertips were slowly moving on my skin.

“I don’t think our hosts would appreciate this behavior,” I joked.

“At least one of them had done worst things at these parties,” he said, and we both burst out laughing.

“About that…Have you, by any chance, seen my mother? Because I haven’t in a while, and I was too scared to try to find her.”

“I had to occupy her attention for a while.”

His voice was so low I finally opened my eyes, and I smiled at him.

“You’re still here,” I said like a total dork.

“Have I ever not been?”

I pressed my body even closer to him instead of answering his question with actual words.

“What did you want from Sylvia?”

“I told her you’re spending the night in my bed,” his eyes dropped to my mouth and he licked his lips.

“You’re kidding,” I giggled.

“Of course I am. I told her I’m taking you home to talk. I don’t want to piss off the mother of my girlfriend. She is quite merciless.”

I raised a brow mimicking his favorite gesture.

“The mother or the girlfriend?”

“The latter. She’s my nemesis. I just can’t get away from her no matter how much I try.”

Lucas didn’t give me a chance to say anything. His mouth covered mine. There was no anger this time. No desperation. No regrets about the time that we missed. There was just the feeling that lingered between us for what felt like a lifetime.

“I love you,” I whispered into his mouth. He broke the kiss and looked at me beaming. I loved when I made him beam. He closed his eyes and pulled me closer to him.

“Finally.”

Two hours later we were lying in his bed. Naked. Arms, legs, and souls entwined like never before. We barely spoke after we left the party. Mostly because Lucas couldn’t stop kissing me all over my body.

He rolled down and bit my waist. I giggled.

“You’re tickling me,” I wiggled in his arms. “Are you going to explain to me why you’re here? You left for Seattle yesterday, and now you’re back. What happened?”
