“They are just friends.” Isabel waved the issue away. “And don’t change the subject. You are the heir. It is your duty to beget children.”
Samantha looked thoughtfully around the table, her mind ticking, working out a plan, while her siblings kept arguing as was their usual breakfast custom.
Why hadn’t she thought of her brothers? They were all handsome enough, clever, or even brilliant if she were completely honest with herself. True, Gage was harsh and demanding, but that was because he was the oldest with the most responsibilities. Adam, on the other hand, would suit Evie perfectly. He was closer to her age than Richard and more open but just as responsible.Yes,he would be perfect.
“What are you smiling about?” Isabel asked her suspiciously, successfully bringing her back from her thoughts to the breakfast table.
“Nothing,” she lied. “Just wondering if we should invite Evie for supper sometime. She is not very happy in her current household situation. I would love to offer her some support.”
“That’s an excellent idea,” Isabel agreed. “A small family affair would be perfect to lift her mood.”
And a perfect setting to bring two people together.
