“What?” she asked, looking at me.

“We don’t have our phones.”

“Gale.”

“Relax, surely someone is here,” I said, grabbing my boxers and pants off the floor and going to the door. I knocked; however, no one answered.

Opening the door, it was pitch black in the hall. “Hello?”

There was not a person in sight.

That rarely ever happened.

“Is no one there?” she asked.

“Apparently not,” I said, moving to the other side of the room to look out. There were guards drinking coffee at the gate and the door. I could see a light coming from all the way on the other side of the lodge. But no one very close to where we were.

“I think they’ve abandoned us for the evening.”

“Really?” She got up to come to check out the window. “We can get the guards to call—”

“No,” I said, taking her hand. “This might be the closest we are to being alone during this trip. Let’s savor it. Let’s find the kitchen!”

He was right. The whole cottage was empty, and I didn’t realize why until he dropped a pan and the sound echoed throughout the whole room. Not just that, there was even a faint distant echo. Slowly he turned to look at me, a wicked grin on his lips.

“Don’t say it.”

“I think we might have been too loud for them.” He grinned, and I put my hand on his face.

“Oh my God!” I gasped, only for that to echo, too.

He laughed. “That was exactly what they were hearing.”

“Shut up!” I kicked his foot. I could only imagine the looks on their faces when they were able to hear every word and grunt that came out of both of us. “All these old homes are horrible!”

“I like it. At least we don’t have to explain we aren’t fighting anymore,” he said, walking to open the fridge and take food out. He pulled out plates. “See, it seems they knew we would not want to see them tonight. They left food. Let’s take it upstairs, get a few blankets, start a fire, and return to being naked.”

I gave him a look…but sort of wanted to do it.

“Is there wine?” I asked, rushing to the fridge to check myself. Sure enough, there was, and it was my favorite red…I grabbed two bottles…just in case.

“Careful, Your Grace, we still have to get up in the morning.” He chuckled at me.

I looked at him with my best puppy dog eyes.

“Oh my God, Odette, you can’t look at me like that. My heart.” He kissed the side of my face. “Fine, if we are going to go crazy, let’s go all the way crazy.”

Smiling, I grabbed two glasses as well while he got the food, making our way back to the living room where the rest of our clothes were. I grabbed any spare blankets I could find while he started the fire.

Soon we had our own little love nest going beside it. I watched as he stripped back down and took the wine. When he began to pour it into the glass, I reached out for it, but he held back. “Take off the jacket first.”

I cracked my jaw to the side, narrowing my eyes on him.

“Clothes. No service.” He shrugged.

Rolling my eyes, I took off my coat and lifted the sheets onto my shoulders to block the cold. “Happy now?”

“Very.” He handed me my glass of wine before lifting his to his lips. “To our very chaotic, drama-tistic marathon of a honeymoon tour.”
