It’s exhausting, and I’m done.

“I messed up,” I admit quietly and Ryker nods.

“No shit.”

“Let me see her. I’ll apologize.”

“I’m not sure that’s going to be enough,” he tells me honestly. I wince.

“I need to try,” I say brokenly. “I know I don’t deserve another chance. Just… please.”

He nods, turning to look back toward his castle.

“I’ll go ask her.”

I nod and watch as he heads back to his castle.

It feels like it takes forever before he comes back. Ryker looks amused, so I know I’m not going to like whatever he has to say.

“Well?” I ask him once he’s a few feet away.

“I talked her into it. She’ll see you on one condition.”

“Name it.”

He grins and my stomach sinks, but if it means getting the chance to make this right with Salem, then I’ll do it.

“She says she’ll talk to you if you’re the one who’s locked up this time.”

“Fine.”

Ryker seems surprised but pleased with how fast I agreed, and he nods to the guards who start to open the gates.

“Our prison is downstairs,” he reminds me.

We walk around to the side of his castle, and Ryker leads me down a short flight of stairs to a door. I hate the thought of being locked up, but I need to see Salem. I need to apologize and try to get her to take me back.

My wolf paces inside of me. He’s anxious, worried about what will happen to us if she rejects us. Deep down, I think we both know the reality of our situation. Salem has every right to send us packing and never see us again.

Why should she forgive us or take us back when we’ve been treating her so horribly? I doubt that she’ll understand my reasons for treating her the way that I did. My wolf scoffs, complaining how he didn’t want to put her in the tower in the first place.

Ryker leads me to the first cell and I step inside, glaring at him as he gleefully locks the door.

“You’re enjoying this a little too much,” I tell him. The bastard laughs.

“I’m going to go text Romer what’s happening.”

“That’s not necessary,” I tell him flatly and he laughs.

“Oh, it is. It really really is.”

Ryker snaps a photo of me, laughing as he types away on his phone. He disappears up the stairs, his laughter following him.

I growl and start to pace the cell as I wait for Salem to come down.

Her soft footsteps hit the stairs and I tense. I’m desperate for a sight of her after not seeing her all day. My wolf pauses his own pacing inside of me and we both wait, holding our breath as she appears at the bottom of the stairs.

“Salem,” I breathe out.
