“You're my control freak, my demanding possessive cocky man, but I wouldn’t have you any other way. You just need to make a vow that no matter what happens from now on, you will never ever walk away from me, Dawson, because I love you too, and I’m afraid if you do, I’ll never heal enough to carry on.” I noticed the sheen of tears in both our eyes.

“Never again, Everleigh,” he whispered against my lips. “You have my solemn vow.”

“The sooner you're better, the quicker I will ensure you know it, too. That pussy of yours will certainly know who it belongs to...” He raised his brow and winked, giving me his classic grin, causing the throbbing pulse in my core to demand attention.

Even though I had been through such a trauma, I wasn't scared to admit that he looked sexy as hell, all out of sorts. It was a pity I was in a damn hospital bed. Otherwise, like a dog in heat, I'd have been perched on Dawson's lap fucking his brains out.

“Bloody hospitals,” I sighed. “But then I wouldn't expect anything less of you.” I grinned before smacking his hard chest with my good arm and stifling a moan from within.

“Cross my heart,” he said, running his tongue across his lips as he placed his hand under the sheets and found my core, wet, slick and ready for him. “Until then, I've got my own ways to pass the time.”

“Dawson.”

“Now, it's time to unwind,” he said into the crook of my neck before I heard the quiet whisper under his breath. “Then it's destruction time, and I'm sure there will be plenty of fireworks ahead.”

Dawson

Ithought I hated fucking hospitals, but Everleigh brought a whole new meaning to the word hate. She was an awful patient and despised being woken up for observations and checks. She continually begged me to just take her back home to our place, away from everything but I declined. I loved those words 'our place' but I wasn't letting her out of here without a clean bill of health. I'd never forgive myself if she ended up straight back in here. We had to be strong, together. I'd been reprimanded one too many times by a nurse for being on the bed with her, but they could get lost. If Everleigh wanted to be wrapped around my body to feel safe enough to close her eyes and ease her panic, so be it. I’d give her that, no question. The nurses needed to accept I wasn’t moving, no matter how many times they told me to get off the bed, or state that visiting time was over. Just like I’d accepted I’d take the discomfort of my hard cock being pushed in tight constraints against her to keep her calm.

Nurse Williamson had a soft spot for the both of us for some reason. I think she saw something in the pair of us that touched her in some way, maybe a memory. I don’t know, but she was a sweetheart. When she popped in throughout the night to check on Everleigh and take her observations, she turned a blind eye to the fact we were wrapped around each other. Once Everleigh was released, I would be back with gifts and the largest bouquet of flowers Nurse Williamson had ever seen. I’d make it clear I was forever in her debt for the care and consideration she had shown not only for Everleigh as the patient, but also to me. Her calmness and resilience had my hot head rethinking my flight responses and realizing that I’d fucked up again. I was back at Everleigh’s side, to do what I always should have done. Love her, protect her and be with her forever. I’d have lost her forever otherwise; I have no doubt she’d never have given me another chance and Stone would’ve been sat, gloating his black heart out. Nope, not happening, not on my watch.

“Ready to go home?” Nurse Williamson asked after the doctors had finished using Everleigh as a learning example.

“What do you think?” she replied in a clipped tone, getting sick and tired of these four drab magnolia walls.

I’d spoke with Del once he’d checked into a hotel not associated with any of us. I didn’t want there to be any chance of him being here getting out. Stone had people all over the city willing to sell information, but Del was just on the books in a low job capacity. He was my secret weapon in my business dealings, so his name shouldn’t be on anyone’s radar. I wasn’t chancing anything here, especially with Stone’s capabilities.

I knew that what happened next would be life changing. Friends and enemies would be named, I was sure of it. I just had to open my mind and be willing to listen to everything Del would be telling me. Once he found out about Everleigh, he made me prioritize her as the information he had wouldn’t be going anywhere. I knew it was the right thing to do but it had me wound up like a caged-up lion wanting to roam free. My gut screamed whatever he had discovered was tangled up within this fucked up mess.

I breathed in deeply, kissing Everleigh on the head, hoping her presence would be an instant cocktail of calm. “Belle, they're just doing their job,” I said, grabbing her hand and kissing her knuckles.

“But I've had enough.”

“You had enough within hours of me getting here…. but your health comes first,” I replied. Cocking my head to the side, I dared her to continue with her sass. “The rest we will deal.... Trust me.”

“Everleigh,” Nurse Williamson said after she told her to start calling her by her proper name. “Dr. Farage said you can be discharged under Dawson’s care.”

“But?” I asked, interrupting her as I saw the huge grin on Everleigh’s face.

“She has to take it easy.” She sighed, knowing that she was talking to deaf ears.

“Your wrist is still very delicate and you need to take care of yourself. You’re on strong pain medications for the cracked ribs. Everleigh, you need time to heal, time to have this man meat run around after you 24/7, okay?” We all chuckled at the man meat comment, and it did exactly what I’d aimed for, taking Everleigh to humour rather than the stress we all saw on her face.

I winked at Nurse Williamson. “I’ll make sure to take care of her every wish.” Everleigh crossed her arm across her chest, holding onto her sling and huffed.

“I’ll go and sort the paperwork,” she replied.

“Now, listen here,” I said, lifting her chin so her sparkling eyes met mine. “Do you want to go home?”

“Yes!” she snapped back.

“Well stop the moodiness or I will put you over my knee,” I said, watching Everleigh’s eyes darkening and her smirk rising. I stood and whispered in her ear, “Only if you’re a very good girl.”

“Or bad?”
