“Everleigh, get ready now,” I growled. “The sooner you're ready, the sooner I can get you home. The moment those papers are done, we're out of here.”

“Yes, sir,” she replied, blowing me a kiss before jumping from the bed and swaying her hips towards the bathroom. “Are you just going to stand there? Or are you going to help me?”

“Bloody hell, are you trying to kill me?” I grimaced as I said the words, but Everleigh just knocked them right away.

“Nope. Come on. We want to be ready, don't we?” she questioned with her hand poised on the edge of the bathroom door frame.

“Hmm. You're trouble, Miss Acton,” I replied, walking over slowly.

“Yep, but I'm your trouble.”

“Abso-fuckin-lutely,” I growled.

The last few days flew by in a blurred hue of craziness. I didn't know if I was coming or going. Everleigh wouldn't listen to a word I said. In the end, I admitted defeat, allowing her to take control of everything she pleased, as long as she stayed in the apartment. At least I had won on one point; it just meant that I wasn't going anywhere, either. I had questioned involving her anymore in the business with Stone, in case it backfired on her, but what else could he do? He'd already tried actioning his threats once and failed. He wouldn't get a chance to be near her again without me by her side. It was time Everleigh was clued into everything, including whatever Del had discovered.

There was no hiding away anymore. She was my kryptonite and held the decisions to my heart within her hands. Together we were a fierce match; strong and a force to be reckoned with, but apart, the cracks were visible.

“Del…”

“Everleigh, I assume…” he said as he walked into the kitchen.

“Nice to meet you. Drink?” she asked as I walked around and wrapped my arm around her waist.

“Please.”

“Normal poison…?” I asked Del as he nodded quickly with a thin line across his mouth.

I gave Everleigh a kiss on the cheek before opening the cupboard above the sink and reached for two tumblers and a wine glass. After pouring the scotch we were both partial to and Everleigh’s favorite wine, I passed the drinks out.

“Enough of the pleasantries… business.” She smirked as I chuckled, watching her making her way into the lounge as we followed closely behind on her tail.

“I like this one.” Del said as I growled, grabbing Everleigh by the waist and pulling her onto my lap.

“Mine.”

“I know, man. She's feisty. She suits you, Dawson. Seriously, I can actually sense your connection, the new power couple has arrived,” he stated as he lifted his glass in salute to his statement. “So, business…”

“Yes…”

“I've proof that Tye is destroying the business from the inside…” Del looked between us both as I grasped the tumbler of scotch tightly. My other arm draped around Everleigh’s shoulder as she sat snuggled in beside me with her head in the crook of my neck. Her hand trailed up and down my chest, attempting to soothe me and keep me calm.

“Go on…” she said.

“He's had help… coaching, shall we say. This hasn't been a recent development but over a long period of time,” he said, forcing the words out before taking a large gulp of the liquid and wincing at the burning sensation as it trickled down. “It looks like he was trying to get rid of you… with your dad.”

“He wanted it all.” I chuckled at the irony behind it all. “Stone said he wanted to destroy me, but he couldn't do it alone. He said he'd leave me to my own life, but it was never going to happen.”

“Nope,” Del replied as I felt the warmth of Everleigh’s kiss on my neck. “He was just biding his time.”

Everleigh swirled her wine in her glass. “Just like we’ve been doing, we’re gonna do to them what they tried to do to you, Dawson. We’ll play them at a game they think they are winning. With the evidence I've got and Del has, you can finally take him down.”

“You did good with that, Everleigh. It was dangerous and probably stupid.” Del smirked. “But you got everything to tie all the loose ends together and now neither of them will have an out, we’ll have them both banged to rights.”

“Don’t you start, Del. I didn’t know Stone was going to be there, and he’s given me enough grief over it already,” Everleigh said as she jabbed my in the ribs.

“So, what’s the plan?” I asked as I muttered under my breath.
