“You left it until the last minute to tell me in case I freaked out, didn’t you?” He stands up to make his way toward the door and checks through the peep hole to confirm it definitely is Jake.

“Guilty,” I state before I throw my head back with my long hair cascading down my back in laughter.

“Sis.” Jake walks over and hands a large bunch of flowers to me, which Aiden quickly takes and puts in the kitchen. “Aide.” Jake nods in reply.

“How’s everything at the station?” I ask, trying to make small talk.

Jake pulls a dining chair out and sits down. “It’s okay,” he mutters. “Let’s just talk, shall we? This isn’t us. I cleared the air at home, Mom and Dad don’t know anything about this and won’t hear it from me.”

“Thank you.” I sigh, looking up at the ceiling, before I feel Aiden back by my side and squeezing my hand. “I didn’t want to have to go through it all again.”

“I get that. I do. It’s hard enough in my mind at the moment,” he admits as he drops his head down and rubs his hand across his jaw. “I thought that was it, I couldn’t process what I was meant to do. I’m grateful that…” He gulps hard and meets Aiden’s eyes. “I’m grateful that you took charge and knew what to do.”

“I didn’t know what to do, Jake. I went on instinct,” Aiden replies while I settle my hand on his thigh and squeeze. “I love Blaire, Jake. I didn’t know who she was the day I met her, the day I gave her those directions. Blaire took my heart and changed my outlook on life. I can’t be without her. Our worlds connect together as one and complete us.”

“Blaire?” Jake asks, guiltily. “Have I ruined everything?”

“Ruined?” I ask. My mouth drops wide as my eyes flit between the two men. “How can you ruin everything? Are you my brother? Did you run into a burning building and rescue me from a crazy man, who is now behind bars? The only big thing you could ruin here Jake, is the relationship with your best friend, if you can’t accept that I madly love him and I’m going to be living here forever more.”

“What do you mean? You’re not going back to the apartment when it’s refurbished?” Aiden asks, staring at me in wonderment. I turn my body to face him so our knees touch.

“If you will have me, that is?” I question. My brow lifts and I run my hand down his cheek across the fresh, light stubble.

“I can't stop true love, can I?” Jake chides, grabbing Aiden’s shoulder behind us before he leans in and whispers in his ear for us to both hear. “But I promise you this, hurt her, and your life won't be worth living. She means too much to me.”

“No need to worry about that, she means everything to me, too,” Aiden replies, giving a curt nod before he lifts me onto his lap. “Now where were we?”

I look toward Jake and see the scowl across his face starting to form. “She's meant to be resting.”

“Oh, she’s certainly going to be resting, naked in my bed in the next five minutes. Let yourself out man, yeah?” Aiden declares. He watches Jake scale his eyes once over me before letting out a huff and a bye.

“Well…” Aiden stands up, wrapping my legs around his waist and starts to walk toward his room. “I owe your brother a pint maybe, for being a dick, but I don't care. Naked and in my bed now, nothing else matters.”

“It certainly doesn’t.”

The End
