I wrapped my arms around her waist and as she moved her arms up around my shoulders, she began gently rocking her body to the beat.

“There we are.” She stepped closer, bringing her body flush to mine as she moved us to the beat. “You’re better than you think.”

I looked around, seeing the crowd of people clustering around us. I tightened my grasp on the back of her dress, using it to try and remain in this moment with her but as the groups of people moved around us, I could feel myself slipping from the present and into the past.

“Hey.” She moved her hand and grasped the back of my hair, threading her fingers through the strands gently. “Kiss me,” she whispered.

“What?” I frowned down at her, wondering if I had zoned out mid-conversation or something.

“We can either go,” she said, pausing for a moment. “Or you can kiss me.” She rocked her hips from side to side, urging me to use her body to lose myself in.

I gulped at what she was insinuating. “We’re supposed to be going slow and getting to know each other.”

“Then kiss me,” she said, urging me on more. “Slowly.”

She tightened her grasp on my hair a little before she moved my face closer down to hers. I pressed my lips to hers and I couldn’t contain the gasp as her strawberry scent invaded my mouth. She parted her lips and I felt her tongue slowly move against mine.

I tightened my grasp on her waist and slowly moved my palm down. I placed my hand on her ass cheek and fondled her there, squeezing the tender flesh. She moaned as I did that and pressed her body closer to mine. I thrust my tongue against hers, groaning as she invaded all my senses and led me from the icy panic that had begun to latch onto me and instead, I fell into her warmth. I fell into her touch, her taste and I let her consume all of me.

She pulled her lips from mine and I quickly latched my lips onto her neck, tasting and nibbling her beautiful soft skin. She smelled of vanilla and it was a scent I could happily feast on. She moved her lips to my ear and before I could take her lips back, she shocked the hell out of me when she spoke.

“Next time you spiral out of control, I want you to take me and lose yourself in me.”

CHAPTERSEVEN

ISOBEL

Ihad expected tonight to be another night of longing gazes and lip bites as I attempted to not be caught staring at the guy I wanted prior to heading home and yet again, losing myself with a piece of plastic. I knew it was only a matter of time before someone called me out though and I’d have the embarrassment of revealing all and being shot down in flames by him. I wasn’t looking forward to that.

I never expected for the smiles and flirtatious touches to become more though and for Christopher to actually kiss me, touch me and make me understand that my imagination was a poor substitute for the real experience. This man was everything I wanted. He was perfection. I hated that he had so much doubt in himself that I could drown in it. He made me realize that when I’d heard people talking about the world stopping still by one single kiss, it wasn’t lies.

I was blown away by the realization that the feelings I’d tried so long to hide had actually been shared by this sexy man; my soldier boy. When I saw his panic take hold I had to act. I had to do something to make it all go away.

I offered him to use my body—to lose himself in my touch—and I’d do it again without a moment’s hesitation. The minute I felt Christopher begin to pull away, I ignored the stares at my back, knowing that our public display of affection had drawn a crowd. I didn’t need to turn around to know who’d be standing there with cocky smirks on their faces. The guys I could deal with later. Chrissie could also wait but Christopher couldn’t. My attention needed to be focused on one guy and one alone.

I moved my forehead away from his and gazed into his green lust-filled eyes. “Is that better?” I questioned. I peeked my tongue out to coat over my lips, mirroring what Christopher had done with his mouth just moments earlier. I smiled as I felt a squeeze to my ass. “I think I could do with some fresh air.”

“I agree,” he muttered in a raspy tone. He moved his hand upwards and wrapped it around my waist as I marched through the crowded dance floor. I nodded at Luke as we passed him. He looked like he was about to freak out as Freddie guided him away.Did he notice Christopher’s panic?I don’t know but I know that I pulled him away from slipping into a full blown attack. “It may be what we both need.”

The moment the fresh air hit I could see the difference immediately. Christopher’s grip eased and his features became less tight on his face as he took in some deep breaths, calming himself.

“I think I’m going to call it a night,” I admitted. I turned into Christopher’s chest and allowed him to wrap his arms around me, hoping he understood that it was just getting late and that it was nothing to do with him. “I’ll just let the others know.”

I reached for my phone in my clutch and typed out a message. I stopped as Christopher covered my hands before I had the chance to send.

“Let them know I’m escorting you home, okay?” he urged. “I need you to be safe.”

“I can walk it on my own, it’s not far,” I replied. I could feel my heart rate picking up as I took in the seriousness of his tone. “I’m a big girl.” I chuckled.

“Isobel, I don’t care.” Christopher stood his ground. He lowered his lips and kissed the top of my head. I felt a flutter in my stomach at his touch. “I protect what’s mine. Freddie would never forgive me if he knew I’d left you alone. He’d have my balls ripped from me.”

Mine. Fuck, I loved the sound of that.

“Ouch, I wouldn’t wish that for you.” I giggled. “Freddie can be ruthless when he’s protective, too. Of course, I’ll save your balls by letting you escort me home,” I finished, typing the message out before I pressed send. “Ready when you are, soldier boy.”

“Always ready for you, pretty girl.”
