The walk back to my apartment was slow and insightful. I loved every second of the cool night breeze against my skin and coupled with the warmth of Christopher’s palm against mine, it was the perfect contrast to ensure that my mind stayed active and alert for the full journey. I didn’t want to miss a single snippet into Christopher’s life that he wanted to give me, even if I did have to probe him to tell me some of it.

It was clear that he had walls up with the people in his life and I was determined to be the one to try and knock some of those walls down.

“I’ve really enjoyed tonight,” I confessed. I let my arm swing as I held his hand and I felt the grin spread across my face. I was desperate to add a skip to my step as I let the feelings wash over me but I’d probably fall and break my neck. “I didn’t expect it.”

“Expect what?” Christopher asked as I stopped outside my building and waited with bated breath. “That I’d want you?” he asked in a disbelieving tone. “I just want to take it slow…”

“Me too.” I leaned forward and Christopher’s mouth covered mine, kissing me like we’d been doing it for years, not just a few times. “This is addictive,” I muttered against the seam of his lips and pushed forward, claiming a small kiss again from him.

“I know. It feels so right.” Christopher gripped my waist and stared deep into my eyes. “That’s why it’s so important to get to know you.”

“I know. I’ve enjoyed getting a glimpse into what makes you tick.” I bit down on my lip before licking my lips.

“Pretty girl?” he questioned, moving one hand from my waist to my face and tucking a stray piece of hair behind my ear. He trailed his fingers down my neck, stopping there. “Are you working tomorrow?”

“No,” I whispered.

“Would you like to go out for the day together?” Christopher stepped closer until his breath was against the curve of my ear. “Just the two of us.”

“Please,” I begged. “Yes.”

I didn’t miss the low chuckled tone and the carefree grin illuminating Christopher’s features in the streetlamps.

“See you at ten, pretty girl.”

“Christopher…” I squeaked as I started walking up the steps before running my hands along my throat. “Where are we going?”

“Oh, did I forget to say?” He leant up against the lamppost and smiled. “I picked tonight. Tomorrow is your choice, pretty girl. Anything you like.”

“You’re letting me choose,” I stated, a little in shock as my mind started to reel with the possibilities.

“Anything, pretty girl. Sleep tight. I’ll see you in the morning.”

“You too, soldier boy. You too.”

Ibarely slept all night. Instead, I watched the clock ticking by and tried to plan what the perfect date could be for a guy like Christopher. I instantly knew he wouldn’t cope with my normal fun and regular pattern of hitting the shops, especially with the crowds surrounding us. I wanted him to have a day to remember, without the worry of a panic attack always at the forefront of his mind. There were things he could enjoy in New York City that wouldn’t always have him on edge and I was determined for him to experience each and every one of them alongside me. It was just what to do first as I weighed up the options.

I grabbed my phone and scrolled to Christopher’s name, hovering over it, deciding if calling or texting him would be the better option. I clicked the call icon and waited, hoping that he wasn’t regretting last night. That kissing me wasn’t a mistake.

“Soldier boy,” I stated the moment he answered.

“Pretty girl,” he swooned, making the panic ease slightly inside. “Is everything okay?”

“Of course,” I replied back.

“So, you’re not canceling today?” he asked before I heard the shuffling of heavy sheets. Was he still in bed?

I checked the time and thought shit, maybe. I gulped back and started thinking about whether he was naked beneath the sheets or if he wore some cute pajamas. I wouldn’t care either way because I bet he looked sexy, all bed-ridden first thing.

“I was calling to say to wear layers today.” I giggled. “I don’t want you complaining that you’re too cold or too hot.”

“I’m intrigued. Are you going to give me a clue where we are heading?” Christopher replied.

“Not at all. See you later soldier boy and don’t be late.”

I put the phone down and let out a deep breath as a text came in.
