“Have a good weekend.” He gave her a wink. “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.”

Isobel smirked at him when he said that before she let me take the handle of her overnight bag that held our wedding attire in. “Have a good weekend, Luke.”

“You too, darling.”

We left the hotel and after we waved down a cab, we quickly directed him to the airport.

“I’m so excited,” she said quietly as she tucked herself beneath my arm. “I can’t wait to be your wife.”

I kissed her lips, humming against them as I tasted the raspberry gloss.

“I can’t wait to be your husband.” I cuddled her into my chest and relaxed back against the seat.

She had no clue that I had secretly invited Luke and with his organizing skills, the rest of the group. I had tried to keep it basic, not wanting to write a six-page essay on why we were doing this so quickly.

As the car traveled down the block, I knew that Luke was opening the card and I just hoped he could pull off getting everyone to Vegas. I also hoped that my new wife wouldn’t want to kill me when she found out about it.

I grinned as I thought about what his expression would be like when he opened the envelope.

The Little Vegas Chapel

CHAPTERTWENTY-FIVE

ISOBEL

I’d been a bundle of excited nerves all day knowing that Christopher and I would shortly be on that plane to Vegas, ready to become Mr. and Mrs. Matthews. I was glad that I had a midday finish. Getting through these last few days had been tough, ensuring that none of our friends expected anything was amiss, but I was determined to make this about what Christopher, our bean and I needed, not everyone else. I know they’re our friends, our family even, but now I also had my own in the making. A little one that needed me.

First though I had to get through schooling my features and acting like this weekend was like any other around Luke. I don’t know if Luke was just becoming more used to being around me or if Freddie had been teaching him my tells but I was anxious that he’d notice something.

But he didn’t. Thankfully, I felt the pressure on my shoulders automatically release. Now, we just had to hope that we could make it to Vegas without being detected.

“Delays. It would just be our luck,” I said, dropping my face into the palms of my hands as Christopher’s hand rubbed in between my shoulder blades in comfort. “It’s a sign, isn’t it?” I glanced up, feeling the tears forming in my eyes. “Damn hormones.”

“Hey.” Christopher dipped his head down and moved his hand across my shoulder, trailing up to my collarbone and neck until he reached my chin. He tipped it upwards to gaze into his sparkling eyes. “You know it’s a simple delay. It’s only thirty minutes but I get it… the nerves. The fear and panic that everything is going to go horribly wrong, but trust me pretty girl…” He smirked at me as he reached up and rubbed his thumb across my pouty lips. “Nothing will hold me back from marrying you, okay?” He paused. “Well, unless that’s you.”

“Never.” I giggled, hitting him in the chest before curling into his solid form, breathing a sigh of relief. “I can’t wait to be yours in every way.”

“You know you already are, don’t you?” Christopher kissed the top of my head as I listened to the steady thump of his heart beating away. “This just makes it official in the eyes of everyone else.”

I nodded against his chest, thinking how lucky I had become to end up finding a man with such a good heart and soul who could take on all my craziness. I’d never know why our stars were aligned together but I was truly grateful that they were.

In the end we landed in Vegas on time as the pilot ended making the time up enroute. I was a mess, worried that all the plans we’d organized would be for nothing but it seemed that I should have believed in the gods above after all.

Christopher immediately turned his phone on the moment we made it to the hotel and I watched as his eyes flitted across the screen. He seemed nervous, almost like whatever he was waiting for was of the uttermost importance.

“Is everything okay?” I queried, noticing the furrowed brow and pointed stare. “It’s just…”

His phone alerted him to a message at that point. I wasn’t sure if it was an email or text as Christopher’s phone made the same noise for all alerts. It drove me crazy personally but the moment his eyes had finished scanning it, he blew out a long drawn out breath and smiled as he placed it away.

“Everything’s fine. I just managed to arrange a little something extra for later for the pair of us but the confirmation of whether it was doable or not hadn’t come through yet,” he admitted to me before running his fingers over my engagement band. “They’ve outdone themselves.”
