We turned when a knock sounded on the door and I was surprised to see James stood in the doorway. “It’s time. Are you ready?”

“Sure.” I nodded my head and felt Luke place his hands on the lapels of my jacket.

“Let’s straighten you up and we can go and face your beautiful bride.”

“You brought James and Nina with you.”

“Nope.” He shook his head at me. “They were already here meeting with the head of Walker Enterprises regarding a new restaurant. They were planning on leaving this morning but extended their trip a few days.”

“I’m glad. Wouldn’t have been the same without them.” He clapped me on the shoulder. “Just a shame that Lauren and Thomas aren’t here.”

“Don’t you worry about them. They’ll come out in a few weeks. All that matters is getting you up that aisle.” He nodded his head toward the door, giving me a gentle push on my back to get moving.

We exited the room and I smiled as my eyes landed on Nina. She was dressed in a pink dress—her signature color—and was waving hysterically at me. I gave her a wave and I quickly moved to the altar with Luke at my side.

“Hello, sir.” I shook the representative’s hand. “Thank you for marrying us today.”

“You’re welcome.” He gave me a polite smile. “I wish you and your bride a long life of happy memories.”

I nodded my head politely at him and turned to Luke. “Why is facing bombs and minefields more relaxing than waiting for my bride?”

He laughed loudly when I said that and before either of us could say another word, a piano began to play an instrumental version of‘Over the Rainbow’.I fidgeted on the spot, impatient to see her and as the doors opened and Everleigh and Chrissie entered, I couldn’t help but admire how beautiful they were in their dresses. They were dressed in pink, frilly dresses and I was so grateful that she had these women in her life to help make it special. Chrissie gave me a wink as she stopped across the altar from us and as the doors opened, I could feel the whole room fall away. All that I could see was my beautiful bride as she walked down the aisle on Freddie’s arm.

Every time that I saw Isobel, I would silently remark on how beautiful she was but as she floated down the aisle to me now, on the arm of her surrogate brother, she couldn’t have looked more beautiful if she had tried. Not even angels were as beautiful as she was.

I stepped toward them as they approached the end of the aisle and I immediately reached my hand out for Freddie. I expected him to just shake it but as he pulled me into an embrace, I quickly returned it. Today was the start of forever, not just for me and Isobel but for our whole family.

Isobel beamed at us and I made a vow right there that I would ensure she smiled like that every day that we had together.

“Take care of her,” Freddie whispered. He clapped me on the shoulder before he bent down and kissed Isobel’s cheek. He turned and took a seat next to Dawson and I quickly reached for her hand.

“Are you ready?” I asked her. I rubbed my thumb across the back of her hand as I waited for her response.

“Yes,” she whispered. She let me guide her a step up to where the representative was standing. I smiled as I turned to face her and I knew that this moment would live in my heart forever.

We stared into each other’s eyes with our hands clasped together for the whole ceremony. We had chosen to go down the traditional route and as I slid the ring on her finger, I was filled with a strength I had never possessed before. That ring would be there for the rest of our days and as I brought her hand up to my lips and pressed a kiss there, I knew I would die a happy man as her husband.

I grinned as she slipped the ring on my finger and we waited patiently as the representative finished his speech.

“You may now kiss your bride.”

I wrapped my arm around her waist and tugged her to me. She threw her arms around my neck, crushing her body closer to mine as she parted her lips, allowing my tongue entry. She moaned against my lips and as I pulled back, I placed my hand on her stomach, wanting our little child to be a part of this moment.

Applause sounded around us and as I looked at our loved ones clapping for us in unison, I knew that I was exactly where I needed to be.

I had a family. I now had a purpose and a child on the way. With Isobel by my side, I knew that forever was exactly where we belonged.
