Hopefully Disney princesses could learn to be badasses.

I tensed as we got closer to the eating hall. This was where I’d first seen the “kings”, my first step into the descent to hell that I’d found myself in. Although I was hoping that they’d be eating at the Sphinx, I was again reminded that hoping was for fools.

Cain, Stellan, and Remington were holding court with guys that I assumed were on the football and soccer teams. They immediately began to track me as soon as we stepped into the dining area, and I felt like a gazelle being stalked by a lion hiding in the bushes. I was tempted to take Jenna’s hand and run, but that wouldn’t be very badass of me, so I soldiered on.

I was also really, really hungry, so that trumped trying to avoid their bullshit.

Jenna and I got in line for the grill, and I did my best not to fidget or look behind me. It didn’t matter, though, that I wasn’t watching them…I could feel them.

I knew Cain had walked up behind me before I’d even turned around. His Big Dick Energy was so powerful I could feel it sliding over my skin, trying to take over.

“Do you need something, Cain?” I asked, annoyed. Jenna had turned around, obviously not wanting to have her back to a predator, but I pretended I was avidly interested in the grill in front of me that held stacks of hamburger patties.

He was standing so close that his breath was brushing against my neck, and it was a struggle not to shiver.

“Personal space, bud,” I chided as I took a step closer to Jenna, but he just followed me.

“Bring your tray over to our table when you’re done,” he ordered in a silky, scary as fuck voice.

“I have a dinner buddy. Thanks though.”

“That wasn’t a suggestion, little devil,” Cain murmured.

“You’re not going to like it if I sit with you,” I warned him.

“Oh, I’m sure I’ll be all right.”

I didn’t know who had sprung up in my brain, but she was indeed a little devil and had already come up with a million ways to get back at Cain.

“Grab me a Coke before you come over,” he ordered before he walked away.

My shoulders dropped as soon as he was gone, feeling like I’d just waged a war.

“How are you surviving living with them? I would just be a melted puddle of goo every second I was with them. Am I goo right now? Are you going to have to scrape me off the floor, because he’s fucking beautiful?” Jenna whisper-yelled in my ear.

I scoffed, because he was an asshole, but I couldn’t argue with her. He was beautiful. Like a poisonous tree frog that lured you in and then killed you the second you touched it.

We got our food and then I headed over to grab a drink, mixing up my soda concoction…and then grabbing a Coke. Just in case.

“What are you doing?” Jenna hissed as I led her to a table on the opposite side from where Cain, Stellan, and Remington were sitting.

“I’m not a dog, Jenna. He can’t just tell me what to do and expect I’ll obey.”

“Okay well, there’s a difference between being a dog, and having a bit of self-preservation,” she retorted, throwing a fearful look in the guys’ direction.

I didn’t bother answering her. I’d already begun the countdown in my head for when one of them would walk over to try and enforce Cain’s order.

5…4…3…2…1.

“Did you lose your way, sweetheart?” purred Cain, and suddenly his hand was wrapped around my neck as he stood behind me, squeezing just enough to let me know he was in charge.

I calmly picked up my burger and took a bite, very aware of Jenna sitting across from me and looking like she was about to shit her pants.

“I have an excellent sense of direction, Cain. Did you lose your way? Your table’s over there.”

His hand tightened and my bite of hamburger got caught in my throat, forcing me to cough or choke.

He didn’t loosen his grip to let me recover. Asshole.
