“No. I want your eyes open for this one.” I lifted the top hat off my head. “Can you please hold this hat open side up for me?” He did as I asked. Then I tapped the rim with my wand three times.

He looked down into the hat and said, “Should there be smoke, a bunny or maybe flowers coming out?”

I looked inside and it wasn’t there. What the hell! I had practiced this several times today. I leaned over further to look again and there was nothing.

Mikal reached up and pulled something from my hair. “Is this what you’re looking for?”

He held a little candy heart. “Yes, but it’s…upside down.” When he turned it over it said, Luv You. Mikal looked at it, then at me. “It…didn’t work the way I wanted it to.”

“I’m not so sure. If you ask me, you are an amazing magician that pulled off something that never occurred before,” he said.

“What is that?” I asked.

He tossed my top hat onto the couch, then slipped the candy heart into his jean pocket and pulled out a long rectangle box. He handed it to me and instructed, “Open it.”

I could feel the beating of my heart throughout my chest as I slowly removed the lid. “It’s…beautiful,” I said as I lifted the silver charm bracelet.

He turned over the heart shaped charm and engraved on it were the words, Luv You.

I looked up at him. “It says the same thing.”

“It does. It’s…”

“Magic?” I asked.

He shook his head. “Something even better. It’s love.” Mikal stroked my cheek with the back of his hand, brushing the hair from my face. “You, my lovely Trisha, have made this hopeless bachelor fall in love with you.”

“I love you too, Mikal. That’s what I was trying to tell you with this unsuccessful magic trick.”

“I got the message loud and clear, even with this crazy magician outfit,” he chuckled. “Not to sound ungrateful, but it’s not the most flattering thing I’ve seen you wear.”

“Really? I thought you liked it,” I said, giving a twirl.

“Black looks good on you, but not this. It looks more like a tent. Why hide what I enjoy looking at?” he asked.

“But I have one last magic trick,” I said.

“Sweetheart, you told me you love me. What else do you think I want to see?” he asked.

I slipped the bracelet onto my wrist, then grabbed the zipper that had held my cape closed. Slowly I unzipped it, while keeping it as closed as possible. In one movement, I opened the cape and let it fall to the floor.

“Damn, sweetheart. If I’d have known you were wearing that, I never would’ve agreed to your magic show,” he said.

“Exactly.” I took a step closer, ran my hand down his chest and stopped at the bulge in the front of his jeans. “Looks like my final magic trick worked.”

He pulled me into his arms and said, “The Great Trisha performs wonders. Consider yourself hired, every night and all weekend long.” Running his hand up my hip, he cupped my breast that was covered only with a red silicone heart shaped, tasseled nipple covers. Never thought I’d be wearing something that covers less than what a thong does. Mikal seemed to be intrigued by the nipple covers as he traced the heart shape and added, “Care to start now? I’d love to perform some magic tonight myself.”

Mikal bent and kissed my neck. “What exactly do you have in mind?” I moaned as he palmed my breast.

“Showing you all night long how much I love you,” he said.

My magic trick might not have worked out the way I planned, but it couldn’t have been any more perfect.

Our love is no illusion. It’s the real thing.

Wrapping an arm around his neck I pulled him down to me. “What a coincidence. I planned on doing the same thing.”
