“As if I imagined this would explode into what it became,” Wilder said. “I’m just as thunderstruck as Avery, I’m sure.”

“I reached out to a few folks after the reporter called me. Omegas are forming a coalition.” He patted Wilder’s shoulder. “They’re taking this thing over, buddy.”

Wilder held up his hands. “As it should be. I was outside my element, leading a protest for omega rights. All I knew was Avery wanted to be loud and for it not to be easy. I was only trying to strengthen his voice.”

Gray smiled. “You did just that. From those I spoke to, they’re planning to protest until they free Avery.” He glanced at Rohan. “Plan on the three of us being out here for a while.”

“Just be careful of the baby,” Rohan said. “Please. You’ve been exhausted of late.”

“This fight has invigorated me.” Gray smiled, patting his belly. “Though I am worn out. Take me home?”

“You’ve got it, my love,” Rohan murmured, circling a protective arm around his mate. He looked to Lake and Auggie. “Ready, boys?”

“I want to stay at the protest,” Lake said.

“Me, too,” Auggie added.

Gray and Rohan shared a look.

“I’ll stay with them,” Wilder offered. He should check in with the office, but these boys were important to Avery. He had spent little time with them—not that standing in a screaming protest was necessarily the quality time he desired. The protest was important to them all.

“You bringing them home?” Gray asked.

“Indeed,” Wilder remarked, clapping the two teenagers on their backs. “As long as they promise to stick by my side until we pack it in.”

Both boys nodded.

“Can we?” Lake asked.

Gray eyed Wilder. “Yeah, thanks to your Uncle Wile.”

“From the sounds of things, he’s more our brother-in-law than our uncle,” Lake shot back. The teenager glared at Wilder. “Considering he knocked up our brother.”

Wilder realized in that moment he’d bit off more than he could chew with the pair. “It’s not as if that was planned.”

“So easy to lay claim to the baby in his belly, though,” Lake said, narrowing his eyelids.

“So that it didn’t end up in a stranger’s home,” Wilder answered. “Yes. I did.”

“I’m glad he’s protecting Avery’s baby,” Auggie said.

Gray ruffled Auggie’s hair. “Me, too.”

Auggie cringed and pushed his hair down. “Stop! You’re messing up my hair.”

“Are we going, or are we going?” Lake asked Wilder.

“Seems we are going,” Wilder said to the remaining grownups. “We’ll see you all soon.”

Wilder trailed the teenagers outside and into the chaos that had only grown since he’d gone inside. Searching down both sides of the street, he saw nothing but people chanting and demanding change. He found the signs he and the boys had hidden behind a few bushes and moved into the anarchy.

“Stay with me, as promised,” he yelled, leaning closer to them.

Auggie grabbed the corner of his sweater, clinging nearby. Lake was clearly a loose cannon, forcing into the crowd and ignoring Wilder.

Wilder sighed and pushed through the crowd, following on the teenager’s tail with one arm wrapped protectively around Auggie.

Hours passed, sound wringing in his ears. The crowd swelled, almost crushing everyone was so close. Dark came, and the crowd continued. Wilder stayed by the boys’ sides, making sure they didn’t get lost to the maelstrom.
