He glanced up to see Vaughn filling the doorframe.

“Morning, Little Brother.”

“Morning.”

Wilder finished another bite and wiped his mouth. “I’ve looked through messages. Any news from the Green Trust that I’ve missed?”

“No,” Vaughn replied. “To be honest, with all the recent publicity attached to you and the company, I don’t know if that might impact their decision.”

Wilder considered that for a moment. “Do you think I’m wrong for doing what I’ve done?”

“Have I fielded calls with some of our vendors and clients, upset about your new cause? I won’t lie and say I haven’t.”

“You don’t agree with what I’ve done.”

“No, that’s not what I’m saying.” Vaughn eyed him. He entered the office and sat down across from Wilder. “I can’t say how I’d feel in your shoes. I’ve never met my omega.” He paused, a strange look on his face. “How did you recognize Avery was yours?”

Wilder chewed as he considered his answer. “I don’t know that I can explain it, other than I simply knew he was mine. I assumed he was a beta, and I thought something was wrong with me. For years, I attempted to keep my distance, but I was drawn closer and closer as time passed.” He eyed his brother. “Why do you ask?”

“Well… we’ve all heard that bond is intense and can lead an alpha to do crazy things. I guess I just wanted to understand.”

“That’s it? I’m acting crazy? It’s all pheromones and hormones?”

“No, you’re acting like an alpha in love.” Vaughn crossed his legs and sighed. “I can’t blame you for wanting your omega freed. I would never ask you to stop what you’re doing.”

“Iwould.”

Wilder lifted his gaze to see their father, Warden Jaymes, in the doorway. Their papa, Wynter, came strolling past his husband and into the office.

“Are you mad?” their papa asked Wilder. “An omega impersonating a beta, breaking the law andworkingin the AQ—and you have to go and mate him?”

Wilder had been waiting for that particular shoe to drop. Since Jamie’s death, his relationship with his parents had been fraught with tension… though it had never exactly been strong before that. His parents didn’t show love or affection, not even to one another. They were distant on the best of days. “You’ve spent years pushing me to mate. I finally did it. I figured you might be happy.”

Oh, I realized you wouldn’t be.

Their papa scoffed. “First off, he’s going to prison. Second, there’s been no agreement between the families… nothing to ensure the family fortune is protected.”

“His father and papa are dead. All he has left is an omega uncle and two omega brothers.”

Wynter rolled his eyes. “A whole family he’d want you to support. Lovely.”

“I make more than enough to support him and anyone else he needs me to.”

Their father chipped in. “That is,ifyou remain the CEO of this company. Do you have any idea of the damage you’ve done to our reputation? I’ve been on phone call after phone call with the board since you showed up on the news.”

“If you were in my place—and they had imprisoned your omega because of unjust laws—you’d sit idly back and do nothing?” he asked his father.

Warden’s gaze drifted to Wynter and back to Wilder. “My omega was smart enough not to get put in the situation yours is in now. Had this omega followed the laws, he’d be safe and waiting for you in the OQ.Where he belongs.”

“This omegahas wreaked havoc on our family name,” Wynter said. “We were just finally finding some peace after the fiasco your brother caused.”

“Yes, we’ve heard all the whining and crying aboutyour barren omega son who pushed his alpha into the arms of another omega story,” Wilder blasted, anger filling him. “Jamie had every right to make the choices he did for his family. No matter what you thought. I have that same right.”

“A lone omega does not make a family,” Warden spat. “Refuse the claim.”

“A lone omega may not… but my baby in his belly does.”

Both his parent’s gaze swung in his direction, shock on their faces.
