Tensen added, “The OQ is the original province. It was a warlord’s camp. Alphas once reigned supreme there, averylong time ago.”

“Oh?” Wilder asked. “A warlord, hmm?”

“Multiple ones. As the alphas aged, they chose a successor, one of their many alpha sons, to become the next warlord.”

Wilder stared at Tensen, shocked.

Tensen shrugged. “I took a class in OQ history while in college. I thought it might help me better understand my clients,” Tensen said. “Since, the history has fascinated me. I’ve even toured the old fortress where the warlords once lived. If I hadn’t become an attorney, I like to think I would’ve become a historian or an archeologist.”

“Someone once told me that these alphas would have more than one omega. Do you think that’s true?” Wilder asked.

Tensen smiled, leaning back in his chair. “It’s likely true. Most historians claim the additional omegas were servants of some kind, but I’ve seen enough evidence to realize those ancient alphas had harems. I stumbled across an old manuscript mentioning a warlord had gifted his son his harem upon his death. There are a lot of younger historians who aren’t as afraid to go against the grain, and many of them support the harem theory. Their research isfascinating.”

Wilder smiled, remembering an old conversation with Gray.

“Alphas in the Western Provinces had harems as recently as eighty years ago,” Tensen added.

“They did?”Wilder asked, shocked.

“Yes, they like to make it out that they’re more progressive than we are here in the east, but they were one of the last areas to outlaw them. They’ve been illegal here for several hundred years.”

“We didn’t learn that in any college university class,” Wilder said.

Tensen chuckled. “No… it came up in an omega law class I had many moons ago. We were all as surprised as you. It’s been practically erased from our history, but it did indeed happen.”

“You two sound like my mate,” Rohan mentioned. “He’s constantly telling me stories of ancient omega history.”

“As a matter of fact, it was your mate who told methatstory,” Wilder said.

Rohan scoffed. “How in the world could one alpha handle more than one mate?”

“Youhave,” Wilder murmured.

Rohan’s gaze lifted from his notes. He met Wilder’s stare, solemn. After a few seconds, he broke eye contact, clearing his throat. “We need to get back to planning.” Shuffling his notes, he cleared his throat again. “I’ve gotten calls back from almost all of Avery’s professors. All but two have agreed to testify in his defense.”

Wilder eyed Rohan. “That’s a positive. Vaughn has also agreed to speak on his behalf, to validate his work ethic.” Though Hardwick was Avery’s true supervisor. His brother had little knowledge of Avery’s genuine work ethic, but was willing nonetheless.

“I think having so many willing to stand up and vouch for him will make a tremendous impact,” Tensen added. “The pressure the omega group is putting on the Provincial Congress is interesting, too. I’ve been hearing word that they might have the numbers to vote on a couple of key measures soon.”

“You don’t think they’ll play lip service in an attempt to quell the protests, do you?” Rohan asked. “That’s what Gray seems to be worried about.”

“No idea. What I know is omegas are far brighter and more capable than the government ever gave them credit for. I sense they will accept nothing but significant action,” Tensen replied.

A door into the conference room swung open, and loud sounds came from the office outside. Tensen’s assistant came in. “You’ve got to see this!”

He reached for something in a nearby drawer and came out with a remote. Aiming it at the television hanging from a wall, he clicked it on.

What Wilder saw floored him.

Breaking News: Congress Approves Use ofHeatexandScentex

Wilder’s gaze went to Tensen’s and then Rohan’s before they all looked back at the screen. Jake Spelling was reporting, his gaze blank.

“It seems the so-called Omega Rights Movement has been successful in their protests. In a drastic measure, the Provincial Congress made sweeping changes in a late-night session. Not only have the new drugs quickly been legalized for use by omegas by the radical majority currently seated in our congress, they’ve also been working on an Omega Bill of Rights, with the input of liberal-minded attorneys throughout the province and the ORM themselves. They’ve handed the keys to the kingdom right into the hands of zealots! From what we’re hearing, this congress is ready to give in and lay down in order to stop the weeks and weeks of protests. The only good news out of this is that it might take many months before the province can acquire enough of a supply of these drugs before omegas would begin taking them, so the changeswill nothappen overnight, although it feels that way thus far. Avery Stephens’ case, in a short amount of time, has changed the landscape of our province—and he hasn’t even stepped before the Tribunal yet. That’s slated for next week. We’re sure many of our viewers will be watching and waiting for a decision to be made—and be sure, our cameras will be in the courtroom as testimony begins.”

He glared at the asshole on the screen. Prior to Avery’s case, he’d never noticed the reactionary tone to Jake Spelling’s reports. Since, all he seemed to hear were the dog whistles. “They’re allowing cameras in the courtroom?” Wilder asked Tensen.

“First I’m hearing of it,” Tensen replied. “They rarely allow them. I’ll put in some calls.”
