A path opened before Wilder, with omegas wide-eyed and gasping with disbelief. Several reached out to touch him as he passed, as if they willed him strength or sent their hopes along with him. Finally, he reached the stairs to the prison and climbed as fast as his feet would move.

The minute he entered the visitation center, he banged on the glass window. “I need to see him! Now!”

“It’snotvisiting hours,” the guard spoke through the microphone.

Shaking, Wilder refused to leave. “I got a call…” He swallowed the lump in his throat. “They said he’d been hurt.”

The guard eyed him. “Lemme make a call.”

Seconds passed like hours. His stomach did a few somersaults, bile rising in his throat. He wasn’t leaving until he’d seen Avery and confirmed his omega was okay.

The call took too long. Before it was over, Rohan arrived at his side.

After hanging up the phone, the guard returned to the microphone. “He’s been stabbed.”

Stabbed? He reached for the wall as the world spun. Nausea hit, and he had to take a deep breath.

“The doctor’s working on him now. You can have a seat over there, and I can update you on his condition.”

“Per the court’s order, Wilder has the right to be in the clinic during any procedures that might affect the life of their child. We need in there. Now,”Rohan demanded.

The guard rolled his eyes. “I need to make another call.”

Wilder paced like a caged animal. Rage mixed with terror, mixed with the same helplessness he’d been suffering for weeks. His omega might die, and he could do nothing but wait behind a concrete wall. He clenched and unclenched his fists, one still tight from the damage he’d done. Adrenaline roared through his veins, making it impossible not to move.

Almost impossible not to scream.

Spots formed in his vision. Sweat dotted his brow. He banged his good fist on the glass.“Hurry it up!”

“We’ll get you back there. Even if I have to call in a favor with some judge friends and get a speedy court order,” Rohan said, pulling him away from the window.

“What if it’s too late?” Tears stung the backs of his eyes. His throat went dry. “What if he’s gone before I can get there?”

“Avery’s a strong one. He’s not going anywhere.”

Wilder nodded, not completely convinced by the words. He glanced down at his barely healed hand, ready to do more damage if he needed to. Hehadto get back there. He’d tear down the very walls if he had to.

By the time the guard returned to the microphone, Tensen had arrived.

“I can let y’all back now.” He flicked his head to the right. “I’ll buzz you in. Stand at the other side of the entrance until the guard comes to escort you back.”

Thank the gods.

What he saw once he got into the clinic was enough to send him to his knees, begging those same gods to not take his omega.

Avery’s eyelids fluttered open. Weakness overwhelmed him. He sensed a hand in his and turned to note a blond head lying beside him on the bed. Searching around, he thought he was possibly in the clinic. A curtain surrounded them, encapsulating them in the narrow space. He squeezed Wilder’s hand and smelled his alpha’s scent surrounding him.

“Wilder?”he asked, his throat raw.

Wilder’s head popped up, his red eyes sleepy-laden.“Oh, thank the gods…”His face contorted in pain before he smiled, tears shining in his eyes. Wilder took his hand and kissed inside his palm.

“Wha—what happened?”

Wilder leaned closer, brushing some of his hair from his forehead. “You’re in the hospital.” He released a breath. “One of your cellmates attacked you.”

Avery tried to recall the memory, but nothing came. “Tulla?”
