Avery captured his face, forcing his attention. “If it means that much to you, then yes.”
“I know how you feel about the system and its treatment of omegas. I won’t force you to do something against your beliefs.”
“The government has never given enough freedom to omegas, so my gut reaction was to say no. I wish I’d kept my mouth shut.”
“Don’t worry about it,” Wilder murmured. “Let’s get you dressed and get you home.”
Avery didn’t move. “You sacrificedeverythingfor me. Your career, your reputation, and your standing in this community. For me. You’ve given and given, and I’ve not been able to give you much in return. The government is moving toward more rights… and you, my alpha, treat me as an equal, not a belonging. I’m a very lucky omega, and I realize it. I would love nothing more than to have a mating ceremony with you.”
Wilder met his gaze, searching for the truth to his words.
“But not at the courthouse,please.It’s not exactly a place I love right now.”
“Where do you want it?”
“Perhaps Rohan and Gray would be amenable to using their backyard? Perhaps Tensen can perform the rights and we can be surrounded by those we love… maybe enjoy a celebratory meal with them after.”
“This sounds very much like a beta wedding.”
“Ilovethe concept of those. Why can’t we have our own celebration, not some civil ceremony in the courthouse, and go straight to a bed to consummate the contract? I want to be surrounded by love, not take part in a cold business transaction.”
Since betas did not mate for life, those that wanted to share their futures would wed one another in a lavish ceremony. Wilder had attended a few over the years, mostly business contacts he wanted to keep happy. He hadn’t understood the need for the grand affair, but if it was what his omega wanted, and it would solidify their bond, so be it.
Wilder drew a hand through the hair at Avery’s nape, cradling his omega’s head. “You, my love, can have anything you wish as long as you’re mine. As I am fully and completely yours.”
“I love you,” Avery murmured. “I don’t think I’ve expressed how fortunate I am to have you in my life.”
“I… love you, my omega,” Wilder leaned in and captured Avery’s lips.
Their gentle kiss soon grew more heated.
The door to their room whipped open, and a nurse entered. “Oh my, I assumed you two had headed out by now. I’m so sorry, I’ll leave.”
“No, no,” Avery said, rising from Wilder’s lap. “We should be headed home. We have somecelebratingto do.”
Wilder rose as Avery drew his shirt back over his head. His omega reached out for Wilder’s hand as they left.

Once downstairs,Avery all but dragged Wilder to the car. He was wet with slick and past the point of waiting. He was ready to fuck his alpha then and there. Of course, the second they slid into the back of Wilder’s car, the alpha’s phone rang. He answered it, lifting it to his ear. “Hello?”
Wilder frowned. “Okay. When?”
He quieted, listening closely. “I’ll get back to you later, if that’s okay?” he paused, glancing at Avery. “Yep, yep, as soon as possible. We’ll talk soon.” Wilder ended the call and sighed.
“Something wrong?”
“Nope,” Wilder murmured. “Nothing that can’t wait a little while.”
He climbed onto Wilder’s lap. Avery took Wilder’s phone from his hand and tossed it farther on the seat. “Don’t need that interrupting us for a while.”
Wilder smirked, one brow rising. “Oh?”
“Nope, I’ve got plans,” Avery said with a mischievous grin.
