“Good to hear,” Wilder murmured, squeezing Avery’s hand.

“Anything else?”

Avery glanced at Wilder before shaking his head. “No, Doc, we’re good for now.”

“Wonderful. If you have questions that arise, you can call the office or check in with your obstetrician later this week. I won’t need to see you for another six months, unless something comes up. You can head to checkout and schedule that next appointment before you leave.” Dr. Mountbatten rose. “I’ll see you soon. Take care.”

“Goodbye,” Avery murmured.

The door closed behind the doctor, and they were left alone. Wilder eyed the dressing gown covering Avery’s top half and lifted a hand to drag it down and off. “So…”

“We can do whatever we want from here on out.”

Wilder smiled. “Want to grab some lunch before we head home?”

“Do you have to go back to work?”

“Nope. I took the rest of the day off,” Wilder said.

Avery leapt off the table. “Then take me home, alpha.”

Wilder grinned. “No food?”

Avery straddled his lap. “Only thing I’m hungry for is you.”

He growled before leaning closer to kiss his omega. “I like the way you think, sir.”

Avery grinned, a full smile he hadn’t seen in some time.

“Or…”

“Or nothing! Take me home!”

Wilder laughed. “Let me finish.”

Avery rolled his eyes. “Yes, go ahead. And hurry.”

“Or… we could go to the courthouse and have a mating ceremony first?”

Avery leaned back slightly, searching his face.

“I mean… we’ve already got the baby. The ceremony usually comes first.”

“Or we could rebel against society and have this baby without it,” Avery mentioned.

“What?No mating ceremony?” Wilder froze.

“We practically had a mating ceremony during my heat. That’s good enough.”

“That’s not official. It’s not registered with the government.”

Avery cringed. “Do we really need all that? We’re together. We’re having a baby, regardless.”

Wilder sat, stunned. He wanted the permanence of a ceremony. To be seen by all as mates.

“If it means that much to you…”

Wilder shook himself. “No. If it’s not something you want to do, we won’t do it.”
