Avery scoffed. “That was Mr. Reece of Reece and White. Offering me a job. Seems he was informed about an investigation I was involved with and the subsequent arrest of your Director of Accounting. He just offered me a job.”

“Interested?”

“I have a job. At Jaymes & Associates. Don’t I?” Avery scoffed. “I guess I’m assuming I do. Since I was arrested and imprisoned, I suppose someone else filled my position.”

“If you want to work at J&A, Vaughn and I will find the perfect job for you, don’t you worry.”

“Then why did you call him?”

Wilder pulled Avery’s feet into his lap and massaged them. “You turned down an exciting internship because you were attempting to mask who you were. Now you don’t have to do that. I don’t want you giving up on your dreams to stay at Jaymes & Associates.”

Avery stared at him, his face blank.

“I would love for my omega to be close, but I won’t force you to stay in a job you really didn’t want.”

“You’ve given me everything. A life I could never imagine. Love I didn’t think I deserved. A new family.”

“I didn’tgiveyou anything. You went out and made sure you earned your due. You wanted that internship. Take the job if it’s what you really want.”

“What if I wanted to stay at J&A? Perhaps work as the Director of Accounting? I hear there’s been a position that opened up.” He grinned. “I kid. I haven’t been there long enough to jump to the head of the line.”

“I think outing an embezzler that’s been working right under our noses accounts for a little line jumping.”

“So, I can stay?”

“Onlyif that’s what you want.” Wilder handed Avery his plate. “Don’t let the eggs get any colder.”

Avery took the plate, a thoughtful expression on his face. “Maybe I should think about it. It won’t be too much longer before the baby comes and I’ll need to take a little paternity leave after.”

“Right,” Wilder said, scooping a forkful of eggs into his mouth.

“That gives me a couple of months to think about things.”

Wilder nodded.

Avery smiled. “Why are you so good to me?”

Wilder leaned closer, stealing a kiss. “Because I love you.”

Avery caressed the side of his face. “And I love you.”

Wilder smiled, stealing another kiss before returning to his breakfast. From the corner of his eye, he noticed Avery still toying with the food on his plate.

“Eat.You’re eating for two, sir.”

“Okay, okay,” Avery grumbled with a smile. He started eating, calming Wilder’s alpha protectiveness.

Wilder watched him from the corner of his eye… grinning to himself, all while wondering how one man had so completely become his entire world.

A short time later…

“Ipromise to stand at your side for the rest of my days,” Avery murmured, staring into Wilder’s eyes, attempting to hold back tears. Months ago, he never would’ve imagined his life leading to where he was that day, standing in front of his alpha, pledging his love for the rest of their days.

Wilder smiled, holding his gaze.

“Supporting you in hard times. Laughing with you during the good times. Loving you through it all.”
