“Abraham,”Lake corrected.

“Did I do it again? Damn it,” Gray said. “Abe was having a moment. Youarefamily, Wilder. You should come.”

Wilder wasn’t so sure. But then he glimpsed Abraham and Brett talking with others in the crowd and jealousy swept through him—and even though he knew he should go back home or to the office… “Sure. Sure… I’m coming.”

Avery watched Wilder from afar, ashamed of his reaction moments before. He hadn’t meant to say the things he did, definitely not in the tone he’d had, but he also wasn’t accustomed to dealing with the crazy emotional roller coaster that the alpha’s nearness caused, along with the stress of graduating. His heat was past, and he was fine around other alphas… except apparently for Wilder.

Wilder had always caused a stronger reaction in him. Since the meds were growing weaker, he didn’t have a chance.

“So who is that guy?” Brett asked after following the path of Avery’s gaze.

“No one.”

“Don’t lie to me,” Brett warned, turning to face Avery. “He’s definitely an alpha. Why do you dislike him so much?”

“It’s not that I dislike him.”

“Is it the opposite?”

Avery’s face grew hotter.

“That’s it! He’s your alph—”

Avery pressed his fingers to Brett’s lips.“Watchwhat you’re saying in public,” he whispered hotly.

“Sorry,” Brett muttered. He glanced over to where Wilder was glaring at them both. “But that’s it, right? He’s the one?”

“I don’t know.”

“You don’t know.” Brett tilted his head. “I sense that’s a lie.”

“What he is, is my potential new boss.”

“Oh?” Brett’s brows rose. “That sounds dangerous.”

“It is,” Avery replied. “But I wouldn’t be working under him directly.”

“Yet youwantto be working directly under him, I can see that.”

Avery rolled his eyes, trying not to grin as Brett suggestively swirled his hips.

“Hey, who was giving me shit about being into the boss? What’s good for the goose, Mr. Gander.”

“Can you be serious for one minute?” Avery asked.

“I can… and that time has now expired—so I have to vent the stupidity here and there before I can do it again.”

“Get it all out of your system?” Avery asked.

Brett looked thoughtful a minute. “Not sure, but maybe.” He swirled his hips another time or two. “Okay, I think I’m good for a bit.”

Avery shook his head. “I told you about the interview for the internship and what happened after.”

“Yeah, but you said you were out too long without your pills, right?”

“The pills don’t help me as much aroundhim—when they’re working correctly. Incorrectly and in his universe, that’s scary.”
