Avery nodded.
“I miss them,” Lake whispered, tears shining in his eyes.
“Me, too.”
“I don’t know that I would’ve been jumping into bed with an alpha because of it, though,” Lake added with a smirk.
Avery gasped humorously. “Watch it, bub. Let’s see you ignore the call of your alpha for years and see how well you handle it.”
Lake grew serious. “The pills don’t help that?”

“Maybe,” Avery replied, knowing it would likely not help at all. “Ultimately, I’m glad you came in. Not so much for you having to see that, but for the fact it stopped us in our tracks and we didn’t go any further. I could walk away before he figured out what I really was. So, in some way, you saved me.”
Lake grinned. “I’m glad it helped. Although, I might need therapy now.”
Avery rolled his eyes. “Uh-huh.” He rose from the chair. “We better get back to the party, hmm? It’s not every day that your big brother graduates college.”
“It’s not every day that my big brotherillegallygraduates college,” Lake corrected.
“Just had to get one more dig in, huh?”
Lake stood, smiling.“Of course.”
Avery led his brother downstairs. Once there, he didn’t see Wilder.

The following morning, Avery lay in bed, staring up at the ceiling unable to find the motivation to get up. His days of class were over. Studying was no more. Panic hit.
Thoughts of what happened after his interview circled in his mind. Being chased through the streets by strangers had left a huge dent. He knew it might potentially be safer at J&A… but Reece and White was his dream job.
