Avery knew he should’ve refused Wilder’s invitation the second it was offered. He kicked himself for not being stronger. Yet, when the boss asked you to lunch, could he refuse?

When the boss was his alpha, the answer was more complicated.

“I’ll give your guest time to review the menu before I return for you order,” the server murmured huskily to Wilder, all while side-eyeing Avery.

Once they were alone, Avery lowered his menu. He spied Wilder’s handsome face, his stomach doing somersaults. “So… you come here often?”

One of Wilder’s eyebrows rose, and a loveable smirk came to his lips. “Is that a pickup line? I’m pretty easy if it is.”

Easy? It had been pretty easy getting his dick sucked. There was power in knowing the man across from him was ready for another round. So why did warmth flood his cheeks? “No, it’s not… but I noticed how everyone here jumped to attention the minute you walked in the door.”

Wilder shrugged. “It’s close to the office… and I like the food.” He scanned Avery’s face, a glitter of lust in his eyes. “Even better with good company.”

Avery hid his face with the menu, refusing to let Wilder see the smile he couldn’t contain.

“Wh—” He cleared his dry throat. “What do you recommend?”

“I haven’t had a bad meal here yet.”

Until that moment, Avery ignored the prices. He nearly choked when he scanned the price on one menu item that appeared intriguing. “Sheesh… it’s quite expensive.”

“Order whatever you like.”

“I’d planned to,” Avery mentioned, peeking over the top. “I figure you owe me.”

“Oh?”

“Well, considering the last time we were alone together, I didn’t even get dinner before the entertainment started.”

Wilder leaned forward, bridging his elbows on the table. “As I recall, we never finished thatentertainment.”

Abraham’s face grew brighter red. He focused on the menu.

“We didnothingwrong,” Wilder whispered. “I look forward to a second attempt.”

Avery glanced over the edge of the menu. “You’re my boss. We shouldn’t.”

“I can fix that,” Wilder murmured, placing a finger on top of his menu and forcing it down.

“Are you threatening my job?”

Wilder sat back, quizzical. Instead of answering, he asked a question of his own. “Why didn’t you take the position with Reece and White?”

Avery lowered the menu, sighing. “I already answered that.”

“I don’t think I got a straight answer.”

The server approached. “Ready?”

Avery lifted his menu and waved a hand at Wilder. “Go ahead.”

“I’ll have my regular.”

“Yes, Mr. Jaymes.” The server focused on Avery. “And you, sir?”

“I’ll have the flounder special.”

“Two flounders… easy enough. Would you care for a salad as well?”
