He greets me with a kiss that sets a fire running through me, and after a moment, Elliot’s clearing his throat. “What did someone just say about cooling it?” he asks pointedly, teasing.

“Okay, okay,” I laugh and pull back, looping my arm through Shaun’s and then reaching for Elliot and looping my other arm through his, “Let’s go.”

We have to disconnect to get through the doorway, then again once we’re out to the car. I settle myself in the backseat, my guys in the front, and Shaun drives to this mystery date place of his.

The restaurant is one we’ve been to before, but even so, it’s a pleasant surprise when we pull into the parking lot. It was one of the few places all three of us completely agree on.

We make our way inside and we’re escorted to a secluded table towards the back.

The three of us split a bottle of wine, and Elliot and I launch into an animated conversation. But Shaun is unusually quiet. He’s been fidgeting with his glass, his napkin, and seems to be shifting in his seat a lot.

“You okay, love?” I ask him finally, “You haven’t said much.”

“Yeah,” he says quickly, too quickly, “I’m fine.”

“You sure? You’ve been squirming like you’ve got a colony of ants crawling around up your ass,” Elliot remarks.

Shaun sighs. “Okay, I said I was going to wait to do this, but I also told myself I was going to wait and do it next week, but clearly I have exactly zero self-control,” he says.

“Do what?” I ask, confused, “You’re rambling.”

Shaun reaches into the pocket of his coat and when his hand emerges, it’s clutching a black velvet box. “So I’m not really sure how to do this, since technically we can’t make it officially legal and all that, plus I don’t really know how to ask two people at once, but…here goes.”

He flips open the box, and inside is a pair of rings. One is a dainty diamond ring with a delicately filigreed band, the other a wider band that’s simpler, but still has a little bit of a design etched into the metal that matches the other in the box. “Lena, Elliot…you two are everything to me. You’re the other pieces of my heart, my soul, and I want to spend the rest of my life making both of you as happy as I possibly can. Will you, Lena, be my wife? And Elliot, will you be my husband?”

Tears are already pouring down my cheeks and all I can do is nod as Elliot says yes.

We pass each other around like a game of musical chairs, sharing celebratory kisses and slipping rings onto fingers, and I’m floating on cloud nine.

It’s been a hard road getting here, with twists and turns I never expected, and I know it’s not magically going to be smooth sailing from here on out, but I know that no matter how rocky it gets, we’re on this road together.

Forever.

THE END
