Chapter Four: Rafe

∞∞∞

Another boring as hell night. Every time someone walks in the door, my head swivels around to check out who it is. I don’t want to admit it. But I’m looking for the little firebrand. I don’t care if she just wants a tour guide. I want to see her so badly it’s like a drunk wanting a drink.

But so far, for the last week nothing. Not one sighting of my little redhead. And yes, I called her mine.

I’ve spent the last week dreaming of her. I can almost taste her sweet skin on my lips. Almost smell the sweet floral scent of her. Almost hear her voice behind me.

“Hey, are you asleep or what? Hello!”

My head whips around so fast I almost get whiplash. A big grin pulls at my lips. “Well, look what the cat dragged in.”

She puts her hands on her wide hips and glares at me, her ice-blue eyes shooting daggers at me. “I knew this was a mistake.” She turns to leave but stops when two women shoo her back from their table.

I eye them and both of them smile at me.

“Friends of yours?”

“Debatable. That’s actually my best friend and my cousin.”

I whirl and glare at them. “The one that set you up with the idiot?”

She smirks. “Glad to see somebody agrees with me. Even if it’s you. Yeah, that cousin.”

“Which one is your cousin?”

“The blond is my best friend, Amanda. The other one is Harvey, my cousin.”

I squint at the pretty woman with the dark hair. “Is that a guy?”

A peal of laughter makes me turn around. “No, she’s a woman. Her dad just really wanted a boy and refused to consider a girl’s name. And my aunt gave in. The woman was a saint.”

“Was?”

“Yeah, both of them died in a car accident three years ago.”

“I’m sorry to hear that. What about your parents?”

“They died when I was a child and my aunt and uncle raised me.”

“They must have been something else. I wish I could have met them.”

“Anyway. I’m here. And those two over there have said I can’t leave or they’re going to fix me up with another idiot.”

“So I’m the lesser of two evils.” I can’t help the wicked smirk. I love that she didn’t want to come and yet she did.

“You appear to be. Don’t make me regret it.” She sits down on a stool at the bar.

“So what’ll you have, princess?” I wipe the bar down and lean over to catch a whiff of the soft floral spice scent that she wears. Lord, even the way she smells make my dick throb.

I lean on the bar and smile at her.

She wags a finger in my face. “Don’t try that smooth shit on me, buddy. I’m not one of your women that will fall for any yarn you spin.”

“Yarn? How old are you? You don’t look like my grandma but you sound like here!”

She rolls her eyes. “Just get me a white wine. Please.”
