“All of that will be answered during the meeting, but I understand why you feel the need to speak up. I am doing everything I can to protect you all, and when it comes to demons, a Hunter is the best thing to deal with them.”

“Yes, Alpha, I know it’s… Dax, you know what happened to me, and I don’t want what happened to me to happen to anyone else here. If Malic, in all his asshole ways, hadn’t stepped in when those monsters were transferring me somewhere else, I would be dead. Hunters sold us out, and….”

“I understand. I promised that we would find a way for you to get back to your pride when it’s safe. I have relayed all the info I had to the correct shifters and friends that I trust. I know for a fact the Delioness is in this state and tracking down any missing along with who is responsible.” I promised. I reached out, placing a hand on her shoulder when both her hands flew to her mouth.

“Delioness knows what’s happening?Apademakheard my prayer. There are many more of us still missing. I trust you, Dax, but I do not know if I can trust a Hunter. Not after what they have done.” Leodora sighed. Her long brown braids almost touched the ground when she looked down with the shake of her head.

“I understand exactly how you feel, but I was reminded recently that not all Hunters are the same and that things are shifting in this supernatural world. If you trust me, then know, I believe it’s for the best when I say that things are changing. Your Queen has been told about you and will make this one of her stops as she finds the remaining lion shifters. You can tell her your story if and when you want to. Another thing Leodora….”

“Yes, Alpha.”

“This will always be your home as long as you want it to be.” I could see the stress leak from her body as her shoulders dropped. I smiled at the young lioness and turned back to head for the pit. I walked in to see Dimitri speaking to another Pack member who stood nose to nose with him.

“Lennox, Dimitri, what is the problem?” Dimitri narrowed his eyes at the wolf and took a step back.

“Nothing, Alpha. I just had to make the rules clear once more for this one.” Dimitri said without taking his eyes away from Lennox.

“Yeah, yeah, Alpha, we all good here.” Lennox sneered.

“Look. At. Me.” I know they both heard the low growl in my voice. Dimitri wasn’t too bothered by it, but he still obeyed. On the other hand, Lennox listened to the command in my tone and faced me immediately. His eyes were cast down and away, but I could see the sneer on his face.

“If my Beta tells you again what the rules are to my Pack, you and your brother will be gone. I don’t set many rules, but I expect every last one to be followed. You get me, Lennox?” I watched as he reflexively swallowed and nodded his head. “Out loud!”

“Yes, Alpha.”

“I will speak to you later about this. Get out of here until it’s time for the meeting.” I grunted as he dashed for the exit. “Tell that brother of yours not to be late to this meeting like the last one, or he will deal with me!” I called out at his retreating back. I looked back at Dimitri as he ran a hand through his hair in frustration.

“These young ones get bigger balls by the day but don’t know shit,” Dimitri grunted with a laugh.

“What the fuck was that about, and is it something I need to be concerned about at the moment?”

“Naw, nothing too serious, but I will keep my eye on them. His brother was messing around with the wards. When I came close to them, I overheard Lennox telling him it wasn’t just a rock and to leave it alone. So, I pulled their dumb asses up on it and sent them on their way. I came here to get this place ready, and here comes big brother. Saying some shit like I don’t have authority over them because they aren’t real Pack members and that I shouldn’t be speaking to his little brother that way. It was some bullshit, and you walk in as I was setting his ass straight about how this shit works.”

“Lennox is a hot-head, but he never goes against Pack law. His brother questions a lot of shit, but Lennox saying all that to you smells like bullshit to me. It sounds like the words of his brother Lindell. They have been here for six months, but I consistently hear about Lindell complaining about working beside Magnus. He thinks of him as prey and not a part of the Pack. So, I had to snatch his ass up about that as well.”

“I remember, but he hasn’t done anything too crazy lately. He’s lucky you stepped in with Magnus. Just because he is a Stag doesn’t mean he is prey. Now that would have been some shit to see, but Magnus is too patient to rise to Lindell’s comments. This situation with Lennox does seem out of left field.” Dimitri muttered.

“Monitor it.”

“I got you. You know that. Now, what brought you down here? Isn’t it time for you to “check” for monsters?” Dimitri grinned as he lit another torch.

“Shut the fuck up. If that eases my young Pack’s minds, then I will do it every fucking night and have “Beta Tree” right along with me if he doesn’t wipe that smile off his face.” I crossed my arms and stood to my full height, feet apart, waiting, so he knew I was dead serious.

“Oh shit, you’re for real! Naw, you got that. I still can’t believe the kids call me Tree. How hard is Dimitri? Fine, the smile is gone. Now tell me what you need.” He said seriously.

“I need you to hit up the Witches to come set up some additional wards around here. I want them placed a few feet from the ones we have, and while we are in this meeting, I want them placed around my house and keyed to myself, you, and my brothers. That will be the last defense if anything gets through. You and Thomas will defend the Pack and its young.”

“What! I am going to fight! That’s how I am going to defend this Pack, Dax.” Dimitri shook his head in irritation. I knew what he wanted, but this is how I needed it.

“No. You will do what I told you to do because you know how much the safety of those pups and cubs means to me and because your Alpha commands it,” I said with force. “Do you trust me?” I asked. I knew my violet eyes were burning bright because my wolf was close to the surface. Dimitri felt it as well and what this request meant to me, and why he was chosen to handle it.

“I trust you, Alpha. You know I got you and will do whatever it is that you need me to do.”

“Thank you.”

“I will hit up Peter and his sister. I will double the rate, so it gets done tonight.”

“Triple it if need be, Dimitri. I don’t give two shits what the cost will be. So, get it done and fast.”
